Don't know if this is supposed to be a ground breaking film, but me feeling is that is a shameless blueprint of the movie Seraphim Falls http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0479537/ , except Essential killing has not really got a dialogue or plot. Could easily have been the same director of photo.

Sorry for bad wording. What I meant was that Essential Killing is indeed a ripoff. The shooting (1966), don't think I ever saw that one. Maybe it was time for a remake.
So now this move is even less original. The "plot" stolen from The Shooting and the photo and sentiment from Seraphim Falls.
Except the plot isn't stolen from The Shooting, in fact I never even directly compared the two films. Something tells me you missed my point.
