Lazy filmmakers have no clue how to write and direct movies. They think the moviegoing public are naive and gullible to believe in their bad exorcist movie.

The Devil Inside is bad for a number of reasons beyond the terrible movie ending. What are the reasons The Devil Inside is horrible:

1) Never name the demons in the Maria Rossi exorcism (can't properly exorcise demons without first revealing their names)
2) Terrible special effects in the same exorcism
3) Passing fiction off as non fiction
4) Creating buzz on the 1989 murders that never happened
5) Opening credit to suggest The Vatican wants nothing to do with the movie
6) terrible acting
7) bad writing
8) subpar directing
9) filmmakers lack experience (previous work Stay Alive - another bad movie)
10)Poor execution
11)Don't understand common story structure
12) manipulate people into thinking The Devil Inside is based on a true story
13) The Rossi Files acting as an unethical marketing ploy to maintain interest
14) Lastly, the worst movie ending of all time

The Possession will restore balance to show how to make good exorcsim movies.

The possession wasn't amazing

The best exorcism film is the Exorcism of Emily Rose

reply

I agree The Exorcism of Emily Rose was executed well. It was loosely based on the life of Anneliese Michel.

reply

It's a cheap amaterur porn without a finish. A bunch of talking heads trying to figure out how to cast out nameless demons. Such a dumb movie.

To think the filmmakers and studio tried to pass this mess off as based on true events. Despicable.

reply

It was terrible well before the joke of an ending: It's a lazy, predictable, highly unoriginal and bad piece of film making that comes across as a hackjob remix of blair witch project and the exorcist. It relies on tired-to-death mimicry of documentary realism to make the film resonate with the audience rather than using well fleshed out characters and a compelling story.

The only part of the film that I thought was at least effective and scary was when the girl confronts her mother for the first time since childhood. Everything else was a big sh*t sundae and the ending was merely a turd on top.

Great, honest review. You had me laughing the entire time. You're 100% right.

reply

Nope, it was hilarious the entire way through. And not on purpose like Scream. It was hilarious just in how bad it was. I will say that the acting wasn't horrible mostly, but the writing was laughable. Literally laughable. I laughed. Many, many times.
And when did it become a "thing" that possessed people NEED to be as sexually vulgar as humanly possible? Being vulgar is not scary. And it's no longer even taboo. I understand why they did it in The Exorcist, but to do it in this movie just made the girl seem desperate, slutty and hilarious.

Maybe this will become the new "Rocky Horror Picture Show" with audience participation -- laughing, booing, or barfing at the appropriate moments. Maybe the "Leader of the Pack" at the end -- Look out! Look out! Look out! Look out!

reply

LMAO! Exactly. Moviegoers dress up like the Devil and demons and poke fun at this sh*t show.

Can't expect much from this filmmaker and his screenwriter colleague, especially since their previous work is a dud in Stay Alive. It is the best warning to stay away from their bad movies.

reply

Scream wasn't hilarious. Mildly amusing maybe, but hilarious? Hell no.

Are you kidding? We were beyond grateful for the ending! When someone complained, one of our party replied, "AT LEAST IT'S OVER."

Having saw this last night i thought the ending made complete sense!
If you think about we know that when Anna asks the demons to leave her mother they do and then transfer to Mikey, Anna and the two exorcists so would it really have made sense that in the car you have 3 posessed people with demons intent on doing harm that the demons all play nice until they get back? I don't think so!

It seems recently that any horror movie with actual content gets slammed and yet the likes of Blair Witch and Paranormal Activity where nothing actually happens are claimed to be the best thing since Hammer Horror! lol

reply

TDI is bad! The problem here is the names of these demons are never revealed. How can you perform an exorcism without exposing the demon names? No catchy lines like in the classic horror, The Exorcist. The director and writer lack confidence in conducting the final exorcism in the movie ending.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose named the demons because the director/screenwriter researched the life of Anneliese Michel. He also directed Sinister and Deliver Us From Evil.

The car accident took place to end this train wreck. We got tortured long enough. This movie didn't make sense - too many plot holes. It was poorly executed.

The filmmakers barely have any film experience. We get what we ask for - a cheap exorcism movie that should have gone straight to DVD.

Blair Witch and Paranormal Activity are found footage films, which are entirely different from The Devil Inside. There was no reliable content in TDI, because the filmmaker and screenwriter relied on tricking people into believing the murder and the exorcism events were based on a true story.

I never heard heard so many moviegoers booing a horror movie. It was that bad. The Devil Inside will always be remembered for being the worst horror movie with a huge weekend opening.

Weird flick. Has some inherent creepiness, but lazy, lazy, lazy. The film makers were trying to combine the unsettling subject of The Exorcist and its clones w/ the implied realism of Blair Witch and its clones. At times, this works, but on the whole, it fails miserably.

The acting that some have criticized is actually the strong point of the film in my opinion. The writing is utterly predictable and yes, the ending is entirely unfulfilling to the point of feeling that the time spent watching the film was wasted.

Hard to miss the mark in a film like this. The unnerved audience emotion and scares are practically built in- most who go to see this movie enjoy the genre in spite of its repetitiveness. But this flick fell well short of my already dismal expectations.

I liked the story.
If they had taken the $$ for advertising and put it into the production of the film, they'd have a really good movie. The mockumentory took so much away from the story, it's really a shame.

reply

Thank God for Torrents.

This film was awful. The 'story' was awful. The 'actors' were awful. It was just a boring boring film that went NO WHERE. Thankfully it bombed at the box office enough that there will be no sequels. I didn't think a 'horror' film could bore me more than those Paranormal Activity films did, but I was wrong. This one did.

negative 10 out of 10.

Unfortunately, it wasn't a bomb. It was a big hit. As in, $49,000,000 on a $1,000,000 budget, third-highest January opening ever.

reply

Look at the next weekends figures, that is what makes it a bomb...

From what I can find, it made its budget back fifty times over. That can not in any way be called a bomb.

The Devil inside depended on their big first weekend. They used social media to tell the young crowd to not watch the movie. The Rossi Files should've launched a weekly early to get people talking.

The filmmakers should understand how to deliver a proper ending. It is a shame to end the exorcist movie with nothing. It is an empty movie that doesn't belong in the same category as good exorcism movies.

Whereas The Devil Inside is just as profitable as Insidious, we would rather watch Insidious 2 than take a chance on The Devil inside 2. If a sequel is released, we will have to review the exorcist. It won't be easy to cover another bad exorcist movie. The Last Exorcism is a far better movie with a good ending.

I doubt The Devil Inside sequel will trick people again. The movie would fail because we all know the exorcism events are a sham.

Solely based on using the "Based on a True Story" trickery and that teeangers should stay away because it is so scary (via social media). The marketing plan was executed well on the first weekend.

Manipulation helped this movie score a huge opening weekend. It fell apart fast. Interestingly, people to this day still assume the movie is based on a true story. Online media gave this movie legs to make money.

reply

I haven't seen this, but have heard.

You have to at least admit that the first Paranormal Activity was quite a brilliant concept and execution. Not to mention it made 433,900% return on investment, plus it was quite well made for being made in like a week with just an idea.

reply

They relied on promoting the fake true story on the website. Lets end this poor movie abruptly and lure people to this The Rossi Files website. Then, maybe, moviegoers would want to watch the movie again and word mouth could create repeat business. Didn't work as planned.

Compare James Wan on a $1.5 million production budget on Insidious to William Brent Bell on $1 million on The Devil Inside. You'll see who knows how to make movies and who doesn't. No comparison. James Wan is far better.

If this William director was that good making a quality movie, he would have made a better follow-up film than Wer.

People got tricked into watching this cheesy exorcism movie. In an interview, the director and writer claimed they wanted to push the envelope and create a jarring ending. Their terrible ending ruined its box office run. After the first weekend, the remainder of The Devil Inside theatrical run went DOA.

I'm sure the movie ending had a large part in this major decline. Take away that $34.5 million opening and this movie would barely scrape up $25 million total. Still a big profit, but it won't entice studios to hire you.

it was very bad and predictable...the ending just made it even worse.

Obvious pop out
Random screaming at the top of lungs
Dog barking
Lights going out then coming back on with "scary" shot
Guy drowns baby
Guy commits suicide
Girl goes crazy
Guy driving car goes crazy

The problem with the movie is that all the scares, except the dog, are obvious. Looking with a handy cam under into a crawl space? You know whats going to happen. Lights go out suddenly, then come back on? You know whats going to happen.

The ending was a massive cop-out and deserved the boos it got.

reply

I didn't mind it until the ending.

It was predictable, but it wasn't the worst film I'd ever seen.

reply

In all honesty, the movie was "average" throughout the first 20 or so minutes, more of a documentary you'd see on History or Bio channel, NOT a movie!

But as you say in your subject line, it IS the ending that absolutely MURDERS this movie!!! A more action filled, intensified ending would've helped a bit, even if its ripped off from the Exorcist or any other movie you can think of, ANYTHING would've been better then the current ending of this movie!!!!!!!!!
