Warning: Documentary-Style Film

I bought the DVD of this film at random last night. I based my decision on what was on the back of the DVD case. The film sounded exciting and fun, and scary. After the first scene - some phony crime-scene investigation footage and a hilariously fake bit from the news - I was instantly disappointed. This was another documentary-style film. You know, those movies where the camera is obviously hand held in order to make the film seem real. Unfortunately, it just made this film seem cheap. This new trend in horror films is easily one of the worst. It's a simple way to avoid the creativity and elegance in setting up shots. Simply hold the camera like you're making a home-movie. Some films can get away with it, but most can't. The camera is basically being jerked around throughout the film. Mixed with the terrible acting (and the spooky new trend of having a possessed human wiggle around a bit while being loud, then pause for a few long seconds before loudly jumping forward at the screen), I had to turn this abomination off within a matter of less than 10 minutes. The film sounded promising, but it failed miserably. This is one of those films that should be remade. Until then, it will remain one of the worst films I have seen - I mean tried to watch (and I've seen Home Alone 3 all the way through). Documentary-style horror film-making is the real demon which must be exorcised - or at least warned of, in print on the DVD's case.

How about YOU 'shut the fck up'?!?!

OP is spot on with his comment.

I hand shoot videos, and they do NOT jump around constantly.

Furthermore, I try my best to frame something meaningful to the scene I'm filming, not 15% of the subject.

And I'm NOT a film student trying to make some documentary.

Most of these found footage/documentary films just highlight the wannabe incompetence of the lazy generation.
