Bad Haircuts

As one who grew up in Glasgow & was aged 13 in 1974 (when 'older' John was in 3rd year) nobody had short hair cuts, especially round their ears!!! The same can be said for 1972. Shame on you Peter Mullan!!!

In all seriousness I was well disappointed with the film but it seems I may have been the shortened version. Having said that I was willing it to end. It started off promisingly then fell away badly which was a pity. Small Faces was a better movie based in that era

Someone said to me that in 1972, the teachers would have had shorter hair, and the pupils longer, but in 1979, they would have had longer hair, while the pupils would have had shorter hair!

I actually thought that a lot of the "ned" haicuts looked much more early eighties than early seveties

In real life, there would probably be more of an overlap. We tend to think of everyone looking like they come from a certain period (think of those Agatha Christie adaptations when everyone looks 1930s, and lives in 1930s buildings) whereas in reality for something like NEDS, they would be living in houses from the 1960s (and earlier) and the fashions would be a mixture of right up to the minute, to people stuck in the 1960s, and some middle aged people looking as if they were wearing their WWII clothes. To be fair, NEDS does do this.

Actually the most accurate complaint I heard about the films is that they'd have more plukes (acne/zits), and their clothing would have been tattier. (People wore a lot of patches on their clothing back then to save money.)
