I heard that Robert Deniro had bought the rights to Neds but I thought he was planning to do a Hollywood remake. I didn't realise that it was the U.S. distribution of the original that he was after.

Lol...How on Earth would you do a Hollywood re-make of this ???And why would you need to anyway, its in English...The Glasgow accent isn't a foreign language and anyway most of the people in the U.S. could do with finding out that there's a country north of the English border.

If you can do a Hollywood remake of a Hollywood film (True Grit has many Oscar nominations under its belt even as we type), why not a Hollywood remake of a British film?

The Italian Job and Get Carter immediately spring to mind, a quick search could yield countless more I'm sure.

Don't get me wrong, I seriously hope that isn't inflicted on us - I dread the Hollywood version called "Hoodlums" with some bunch of pretty white boys in the lead roles and a load of nameless African Americans in the minor roles. I also hated the Hollywood remakes of the two Michael Caine classics mentioned above.

But whether or not it SHOULD happen, don't think for a second that it COULDN'T.

The americans simply can not comprehend films of this nature. you would need subtitles for them to understand it, and also all americans care about is people with guns. if they see a film where people use their fists or use knives they think what wimps compared to our gang bangers.

also the ending would leave them befuddled. its to much of an intelligent film for them

The entire ned culture is a Scottish thing. Sure, you've got Chavs in England, but it's a completely different thing.

To try and do an American version would completely remove the context of the film, and I don't see American's connecting with the characters as well as a Scottish person purely because there's just some things that don't translate overseas.

Anyways, It's cool De Niro got distribution rights. Make money where you can. :P
