shareLazy...
We have to try and understand other accents, so maybe you should do the same.

It's not "sci-fi", it's SF!
I'm Eastern European. I can hardly understand the common english.
shareWell, it's practice for you then. If you learn any language, you have to learn how people actually speak. The people who speak on language courses are usually incredibly posh, and unrepresentative.

Inkheart, if you buy or rent the DVD when it comes out that will have English subtitles on it. They'll give a flavour of the accent, but will be a lot more understandable for you than the Glaswegian accent.

That's nonsense, the Scottish working class (often) speak in one of the most heavily accented, broken, colloquialised forms of English around...it's up their with Jamaican patois. Doesn't matter how hard you try, or what your understanding of standard English is, if it's the first time you've heard 'ahh dinnie ken' you're not gonna ken yourself without explination are ya?
I'm curious of what other native english accents you have to 'try' to understand?

Being an Australian i thought i would understand the broad accents (growing up/living in the Aussie outback you hear some shocking accents which make these kids sound like choir boys)
But during some heated scenes i could not understand whole sentences, but some lip reading and emotaial studies cleared that right up.
7/10 for the actual movie, it was a fun romp

I dont think you are lazy inkheart,i totally see why you are asking,i live very near the scottish border and usually have no trouble understanding scots, however, its not just the accents in this, but very broad glaswegian slang, and i could not follow it all,so i can see the need for subs,i enjoyed the passion of the christ but didnt feel lazy for not learning arameic(?) first-try googling for the subs........
Never interrupt your enemy while he's making a mistake. That's bad manners.
Actually it's not that broad, it's watered down compared to the real thing.

Couldn't understand some of the spoken words also. They talk like they are naturally drunk.
shareWell they are Scottish...

I think, especially if you're not a native English speaker, it's perfectly understandable that some of the dialect is difficult to catch.
I live in Scotland with three English flatmates and when we go out they sometimes can't understand the broader accents. Furthermore if you don't know the slang in the first place it's more than an accent issue.
You're god damn right I did!

Hi
As a native weegie, i had no problem understanding the movie and totally loved it as i remember at the clothes, songs etc. what i dont understand is the problem with people. we all have accents, and some people are just downright ignorant aka do i make derogatory comments about peole who speak in the accnts from birmingham or londoners or people from devon or geordies no i listen and appreciate that we are all that bit different thank god
