Too much of a psychopath

This movie could have been brilliant had the main character been portrayed with more, well, character. When he was young, it was clear that he was struggling with his emotions and his life. Later, when he's thugged out, there is no insight into his feelings. He's almost like a Terminator, and for that I couldn't connect with him at all.

The relationship with his brother wasn't very developed; another loss in what could have made the film better. And at the end, John pretty much had the same look on his face as he did the entire movie. If he had shown even a touch of remorse on his face, or sorrow, it would have made the scene far more poignant.

For the first third of the movie, it was the best film I'd seen in months, but it devolved quickly. It was like a descent into brutality with no humanness mixed in, and with that it lost me. Taking Canta's hand was a step in right direction, but it wasn't enough.

For me it went downhill right after his brother was jailed, and never really recovered.
