Unmentioned goof

In the "anachronisms" portion they didn't mention the catch wiring on the side of the ship when the men were relaxing they didn't match 1950 ships. They were made of some kind of synthetic wiring. That technology wasn't available at that time frame.

Even today they still use metal wiring on those things. I spent many hours doing the same thing when I was deployed while I was in the US Navy. It all depended on flight operations at the time for me though.

My brother fell overboard on the USS Kitty Hawk and those nets saved him.

And it was NOT made out of plastic. Maybe that's why it saved his life. I'm not a malcontent I'm just pointing out a GOOF that was not mentioned in the goof section of IMDB and should have been.

No, no. I'm the malcontent. That's a quote from Quills. It's my signature.

I'm not arguing with you. You made me think of my brother's accident, that's all.

The "net" that Freddie was lying on looked like galvanized fencing to me.
I'll have to take another look.

Sorry about that. If there's anybody with mistaken sig out there it's me. Hell, it changes every day.

I spent a good 8 years of my life riding on those things so have a pretty good awareness of what surrounded me. Those ships really do have a purpose. We are in trouble and need the Navy like no other time in our lives. Including WWII even when our "leaders" tell us otherwise we're in WWIII right now!

Here's a little "sea story" for you here:

One night before we pulled into the Philippines there were a few of us that couldn't sleep with the anticipation of our brief visit to "Adult Disneyland"!!! We pulled out our mattresses and placed them to the bow and parked them in the catch netting and watched the stars and our little dolphin escort.

You're mind would be blown if you saw how many stars there really are out there. Once you have ZERO light pollution it becomes amazing.

We managed to tune in a local Philippine Rock channel on the radio and made a visit out of it. It was interesting watching things happen out there. For example: In the early morning we saw a fisherman heading out to sea. His boat was very tiny but he had a family to feed. This was his way of doing it. I've been there many times and I have seen the people eat from hand to mouth most of the time.

Submit the goof yourself. How else do you think they get there? At the bottom of the goof page (and all trivia pages) there is an edit button, then you fill out the form.

Thanks Rich and Semper Fi to you shipmate. I still like to point things out to initiate discussion. It works 😉

How can you tell that they were made of synthetic wiring? They looked like regular rope rigging to me.

Btw, AMEN on the imminent departure of the arrogant, lying, narcissistic, Marxist BO.

You must have been looking at something else. The catch netting around the edge of the deck was NOT metallic. To this day they are made that way (fire danger/HAZMAT). The material they used for filming this wasn't even available in WWII.

BTW I submitted the "Goof" to do the edit thing and it has not appeared on the webpage.
