did john really throw a brick through paul's window?

this is the 2nd movie i've seen that shows this happen. was this real? john actually threw a brick at his window?

i think i've read it in some of the numerous books on The Beatles/Lennon.

I forget which book it was, but I did read about the brick incident although in the book I read, the other two Beatles were there with John Lennon cheering him on.

If it isn't true it's really popular mythology, because I saw the same scene in the film about Linda McCartney's life so the incident was told from the perspective of Paul and Linda inside their house hearing John yell and getting teh brick through their window. So, I guess people on both the Lennon and McCartney side support that it happened.
