Is Jerry Lee dead at the hospital by the end? I watched it once and it wasn't clear to me.

Yes, he died. My guess is his leg was infected which caused his body to shut down.

shareThis struck me as odd. Frank had been tending to him, and you just don't have a system-wide reaction like that so quickly (as it appeared) after infection sets in. It seems that Frank would have taken him to the hospital when he'd seen earlier signs of one.
