It's no John Ford, but it's a reasonable, enjoyable bit of entertainment.
shareYep, I agree, it's a great Western, should have been released in theaters instead of going direct to video. Barry van Dyke as Frank and Sage Mears as Selina Stevens really carry the movie and have a good chemistry between them, although a romance really doesn't develop, but smolders under the skin.
The film is definitely a remake of HANNIE CAULDER (1971), a good old Burt Kennedy Western with lots of eye candy from Raquel Welch, with Sage Mears in her role in this remake and Barry van Dyke in the Robert Culp role as the bounty hunter. I see Mears' take on her character as fine cinema verite acting; a woman whose life has been savagely torn apart by tragedy from vicious outlaws, and subsequent alcoholism, and then awkwardly trying to pull it all together for revenge.
It is great to see three members of the van Dyke family working together in this film also.
