What flight simulator they use to make this?
Just wondering because it looks very flight simish.
shareJust wondering because it looks very flight simish.
shareI remember playing this film, which is a very weird sentence, but it's true. It is a flight simulator with a few filters on it. Can't remember which one though.

I believe it's IL2 Sturmovik series... and based on grfx, it could be "Birds of Pray" version.
shareIt was done in Lightwave. The company that produced the visual effects, Radical 3D, was the same one that produced History Channel's Dogfights, and flight sequences for Red tails.
Why did they bother? If they're gonna make something that looks like a video game, they may as well use a video game.
sharewhy then did the CGI looks worse than history channel and so much worse than red tails?
shareBudget and/or time restraints.
CGI is still incredibly expensive. It's why tv shows or made for tv movies look like crap.
The CGI in this movie totally sucked. I did enjoy the interaction between the crew members but I thought everything else was very lame.
shareThere's a message just for you at the end of the credits. I suggest you read it. LOL.
This will be the high point of my day; it's all downhill from here.
As a Lightwave veteran I have to admit they made a real poor job!
It's not a matter of cost, but just expertise.
Still it's a pity since the storyline and the characters' interaction may have been quite appealing and engrossing but what spoiled it completely, besides the ugly CGI, was the cheap cinematography shot without any idea about lighting and filtering...
Maybe they should have really used IL-2 Sturmovik! Have a look at one of the best skinner for that sim and the kind of screen-shots he can achieve:
-->>it seems I cannot insert any valid link: please google for IL 2 Sturmovik B17 and see many images from the actual game...<<--
Hey Jejozi,
You made a very good point. I applaud you.
Best wishes,

shareSorry, I did change the link.
But again you can just go on YouTube and search for IL 2 Sturmovik and you'll see many examples of the photo-real details you can get out of that simulator.
At the time of writing I was thinking about the IL2 1946 version, but a few years back they also came out with a more graphically refined version that is astonishing, way more refined than this movie...
