A 4.9 rating... Really? This is a good film

Yes it is low budget.
Yes the effects are cheap CGI.

But...

The acting, script, music are all first rate.

If you forget the rather poor CGI you have a well told story.

Yeah - I thought it was a fair effort. To do better would have cost a lot lot more or taken a lot more trouble/time - which in the end is money.

The story was more interesting than most war films and the characters more credible - being deeply flawed like most real people. Memphis Bell utterly fails because the characters are all heroic old fashioned American boys. Men in wars are not like that.

So I applaud the filmmakers efforts and hope they make more war films. I'd give it 9/10. Far more than I'd give SPR, Memphis Bell or Band of Brothers.

I think it's similar in style, quality and indeed storyline to When Trumpets Fade.

PS - one thing that made the film much better than many a star-studded blockbuster is the actors were all credibly young. The minute you see Tom Hanks masquerading as a Ranger Captain when he was 42 years old it eclipses the efforts they made to get other details right.

Priceless ... I know that everyone is entitled to their opinions but did you must be the only person in the world who is willing to say that!

I mean you did see them loop the B17 right? Such utter nonsense! For that alone they lose 2.5 stars!

The writing and acting was a lot better than some Hollywood flicks recently. I know the CGI took away from the overall feel. At least the crew were the right age.

For all it's shortcomings, I like the spirit of the WWII era.

Not real, merely flickering shades of light and darkness...
