Why not kill ———————? (Spoilers for the ending)


So the doctor commits suicide. Why not just cut his own throat (kill himself) instead of forcing Sam to strangle him?

I agree. He had a last hope of Sam fearing his mom's death, calling the cops. Or even, he could fight Sam and not die. When death is the ultimate way out you'll lean onto anything to try and avoid it. Why would he kill himself? Makes no sense.

He also seemed to be able to manipulate Sam in many ways with his psychological expertise - buying himself a lot of time at the end, for example. Why not utilize that time and his ability to manipulate Sam into slowly convincing him to potentially trust him more?

He had all the time in the world, and he rushed everything. It’s like he gave up in haste after a just a few days. He could’ve prevailed using his vast psychological knowledge - it worked decently up until the point he simply threw in the towel.
