quick question for anyone that's seen it (not really a spoiler)

The crane driver/machinist was part of a psychiatric study that Erik (the hypnotist) was conducting. While under hypnosis the patient mentioned something about sexual abuse of minors, which Erik then reported to the police. The man claimed he was innocent and that the hypnotist had planted the memory. The police couldn't find any evidence and the study was dropped, but the man's reputation was ruined and Erik was disgraced.

Near the end of the film, though, the detective tells Erik that he found out that that same man had had other run-ins with the police regarding sexual abuse.
