My problems with film

I had two basic problems with the film, but all in all, it wasn't bad, just slow and even ponderous at times. It could have been cut by 20 minutes easily.

The first problem was hygiene. I was astounded to see the scruffy, unshaven "hypnotist" of the title roaming freely in the presumably sterilized ICU in his street clothes (the same was true of the police officer leading the investigation). Not only that, but the "hypnotist" held the hand of the near-comatose patient. Aren't visitors supposed to "scrub down" and wear masks and near-sterile clothing on such occasions?

My second problem was the overall "mood" of the film. Why did most scenes take place at night, when movement and facial expressions were difficult to pick up on a smaller screen?

Since it's a thriller I think the noirish mood was appropriate. The killer is 'seen' wearing a hooded jacket, creating mystery and tension.

I had quite a few problems with the film. First of all, I couldn't understand how the hypnotist (Erik) could hypnotize someone in a coma, getting that person to talk. And if he was no longer in good standing how was he even allowed near the comatose patient? Wouldn't someone above the doctor who called Erik override her decision?

- Why was the main detective (Joona) always alone in dangerous situations without his partner?

- If Josef's mother was so unbalanced how could she be a nurse? And how did she get from her isolated cabin to the hospital anyway? It was pretty convenient also that those cops at the end recognized her photo; I thought she was supposed to be a recluse.

- If Josef's family were so scared of him why didn't they get help?

- If Josef's sister knew there was something wrong with him why did she leave her little sister behind?

- If Josef awakened from his coma how come no one in the hospital knew? Wasn't he being monitored?

- Why would Erik take that many sleeping pills when his son is missing and he would need to be alert?

- How were Erik and Simone even allowed to accompany Joona to find Josef's mother at the end?

What with the brutality of the subject matter, as well as all the inconsistencies I didn't really enjoy this film. And of course after everything the film has to end on a happy note--too convenient.
