Dvd with English subtitles?

Well I've been searching and scouring the internet for this film for a good few weeks now and have come up with nothing. Almost all movie sites that require a subscription don't have it and the only way I can actually watch this is if I buy it on DVD from Amazon.fr.

So, will this movie be released on DVD in English outside of France? And if I buy the DVD directly from France, will it have English subtitles? I was hoping that someone from France who might have watched the dvd there might answer that for me as it would be pointless for me to order a DVD that I wouldn't be able to understand if it lacked English subtitles.

The dvd isn't out yet,it will be released on august 21st.And,yes,there will be english subtitles as far as i know.

Thanks for the info, I was beginning to think no one would ever post anything here.

When I made the original post I thought it had already been released in France. I did see on a few French sites that the dvd is being released Aug. 21/22. Nowhere did it say anything about English subtitles but I can't imagine that it won't have them.

To anybody interested, I can confirm that the French dvd release of Land of Oblivion is indeed subtitled in English. I bought a copy a few weeks ago from Amazon.fr and the dvd does come with English subtitles.

Thanks for the info...So, what did you think of the movie?

reply

I loved it. It's a film that doesn't really focus on the accident itself and its immediate effects - instead it portrays the long-term legacy of Chernobyl and of those affected. It's a great drama which i'm sure that not many people have heard of - and not many will. See it if you can.

Bought it, watched it three times in a row and i loved it!

I loved the film and would really love to watch it again, but I can't find it anywhere. I'm in America and my DVD player only plays region 1, and I noticed on Amazon all the DVD's are region 2. If anyone owns the film I would highly appreciate an upload to YouTube. Also, does anyone know if there will eventually be a region 1 release?

I actually watched the film a while ago online, and I thought it was amazing so I really wanted to buy the DVD, but there are no Region 1 as far as I know.

When I watched it online the quality wasn't all that great and I had issues with finding English subtitles which is why I wanted someone to upload it in good quality and with the English subtitles. The film has actually been uploaded recently to YouTube but unfortunately in bad quality and without subtitles.

Thanks so much for your reply and if you have any news on a Region 1 release please let me know.

Does it really matter what region the DVD is if you play it on a PC?

reply

It can. Most players are not region free. If your savy you can get around it though as it is a software implemented limitation, not a hardware one. You could also just buy a cheap region free blu-rar/dvd player. They aren't expensive and well worth owning.

I don't think it does for PC's, no. I played it fine on my (then) 5 year old laptop when I received the dvd.
