what act?

I still don't understand what was the courageous act that helped solve the case? She ran for her life - that's just instinct. It seems to me that the person who really was instrumental in solving the case was the woman in the grocery store parking lot who got a good look at the murderer and the car and was able to describe them.

The police said that because the girl was able to rise in that condition and sound the alarm, bulletins could go out on the airwaves and were more likely to catch the attention of someone in the vicinity. Had time gone by the witness you refer to may not have had the memory fresh in her mind and the event might not have registered. I believe the key to catching the killer came from the car garage notifying the police that a man named Roberson had called about painting a car that fit the description of the car the killer used. That led to Roberson who ratted out the murderer.
