A line that insults fans of the Original Howling and take a Jab at Chris

There's a part in the film where one of the characters (the "know it all" about werewolf school boy I believe it was) who is making a movie and he says something like "No one wants to see some 40 yr old guy playing.." or osmething like that, I can't recall exactly.

When he said this, to me it seemed like a Jab at the Original Howling and also at Christopher Stone, who was the main guy in The Howling and right around 40 when it came out.

The movie all in all was NOTHING like the first Howling or anywhere near as good. It's just an obvious generic cash-grab at Twilight fans for werewolves. The werewolves look EXTREMELY cheap/bad, not even that hairy rather more rubber-suit looking with just strands of hair hanging on their arms and things.

This movie makes An American werewolf in Paris look like The Godfather.

Only redeeming part was Lindsay Shaw.

Actually it was more of a shot at the wolfman (2010) because he was talking about hollywood.

Sadly this was one of the better Howling movies in quite some time. It was by no means great but was definitely watchable.

reply

I agree, I think it just needed a bigger budget. And it was fun seeing the girl from neds declassified in a different role.

Fact: 87.3% of IMDB users belong to the secret society of cynics.

The budget and shooting sched were cut in HALF right before filming. The writer/director did an amazing job with the obstacles put in his way. Considering all of the BS involved the fact that this film is any good at all is a near miracle.

reply

This was... amazing, the WORST howling. That is a real and serious accomplishment.

Clearly you’ve not seen Howling 3: The Marsupials.

Werekangroos, anyone?

reply

Clearly, you've never seen Howling 7: New Moon Rising or Howling 2 & 3, although 2 is so bad it's fun.

reply

...there are so MANY werewolf movies with lead male actors that are in their 40's. Maybe that's what that line was referring to? I honestly don't recall that last werewolf movie I've seen with any young faces in it besides Blood & Chocolate and TH:R. Of course I also don't watch many werewolf movies because the genre has a notoriety with cheap production values which just makes them a pain to watch.

reply

yeah, I thought he was talking about Benicio.

reply

Yeah, I thought he was referring to the recent 'The Wolfman' remake in 2010. Which was great BTW.

reply

Nice. Hated that comment as well and took it as a shot at the werewolf movies I fell in love with growing up. When I was freaking 8 watching Howling, Silver Bullet, Wolfman, American Werewolf, etc. Younger than that douche and I appreciated the films didn't bash them because the werewolf's weren't my age. The idea that nothing's good unless the actors are your age is absurd and means you're only going to watch...I dunno, 10% of what Hollywood makes.

The movie was filled with the shallow, pseudo-pithy reflections of a teenaged mind. This line was just one example of them. It was a badly paced script by someone who (like the writers of all the sequels) obviously didn't get what made the first one so special.

I think what makes me laugh (and cry at the same time) is that this is what - technically the 8th film to bear the 'Howling' name. Ive always been a sucker for sequels, we all must, otherwise it would be a law to make one and move on.

But after 7 attempts - nothing still tops the original. That was made in the early 80s I assume, and 30 years later, all attempts are still crap compared to the attention to detail and creativeness of the Howling!

Admittedly, this was watchable. I havent even seen the 7th one which is barely a werewold film if even a sequel to the Howling from what ive read. And from 2-6 it is sketchy in my mind (I remember 6 well, used to play on bbc1 on a late night Fri or something), but why cant a decent sequel be made??

reply

Well, he's right in the sense that no one THAT HE KNOWS would want to see a 40 year old play .... because he'd actually need some INTELLIGENCE and NUANCE to appreciate the 40 year old's performance. And that too in a movie that is SUPERIOR to the mediocre effort he's in ... talk about making yourself look even more sad and desperate by trying to make your failure seem good by denigrating a BETTER effort!!!!

reply

Yeah I thought this was a jab at the old Howlings too

reply

Hopefully that guy met an awesome demise at the hands of the werewolves?
