Why is there such a law?

Why can't the US let in anybody to be citizens? We should all be able to live exactly where we want to without having to take some bias test, get on a waiting list, and shell out money just to buy citizenship should we?

reply

I know what your feeling. My parents came here hoping for that american dream and after years of hard work, they succeed it! Now that I look at this immigration problem, I think its stupid what americans are doing. It makes me ashame to live in this country where we took land, drove people out and discriminated other races. It no wonder half the world hates us. This is the suppose land of freedom and opportunity but only if your a WASP. As soon as I earn enough money, I'm moving out of here and never come back.

reply

Mexico has tougher immigration law than America, bet you did not know that. So do many other countries.

If not for law, we would be way overpopulated, something that is already a problem in L.A. and New York.
What, is America supposed to take in everyone?

"Give me your tired, your poor/Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free"

What I don't get is this: unless everyone who holds the same position you do (and you aren't exactly in the minority with this view) is part Native American, where do they have a leg to stand on? Almost EVERYONE who lives in this country lives here because at some point their immigrant parents/grandparents/etc. came here, looking for a better life. I just don't know where you make the cut off. Is it OK if you're second generation? Third generation? Only after a certain date? America was built on immigrants and it sickens me that we now turn people away and break up families, all in the name of protecting our borders.

There can only be a certain number of people here to live comfortably. We're happy to have some immigration, within reason. Everybody and their mother wants to come to America. Why not casually let the people that we want in, like the doctors, scientists, and engineers in, and not allow in the uneducated if we have a choice? And as an added bonus, maybe speaking English wouldn't kill them. If we didn't entitlements like welfare and unemployment benefits it might be a different story, but this a country that insists of paying people just for existing. So, we've gotta work together, and the country's success is our success.

That's why.

Or maybe I should put this in a context you can understand.

You start a small business. You put out an ad for an IT specialist to run your IT system. You get 200 applicants. Naturally you want to select the best one, take your time interview them all, and hire one so that you can spend within your means. But then 150 of them come in, and decide that they're just going to work for you whether you like it or not, and Obama decides that you need to pay them all a full salary and let them work for you becuase it would hurt their feelings if you fired them...and they have kids afterall, that you have to hire too. Now, which option makes more sense?

reply

Great analogy, except for stuff like the fact that illegal immigrants can't generally collect welfare, you know because they aren't on the books in the first place and that those kids who are legal citizens because of those "awful birthright laws" tend to grow up to be significant net contributors to the american economy oh, and that running a country is nothing like running a business.

Here's what really pisses me off - you immigrant scare-mongerers are happily destroying american freedoms as part of your witch-hunt. Programs like E-Verify have made it practically mandatory for regular citizens to get permission from the federal government in order to get a job. Do you understand just how insulting that is to the basic american principle of freedom from government intrusion in our lives? Even if illegal immigrants were a net drain on the economy, that cost would be worth it to keep from having to kow-tow to the president just to earn a living.

reply

Wrong about those anchor babies being a great asset to our society since MOST latinos "immigrant" kids don't even graduate from high school. GOGGLE IT. And the only reason why you hate E VERIFY is because of your pro illegal leaning(admit it). You know what is insulting?! Having to wait in line for the right to come here but these illegal want AMNESTY(DREAM ACT). That is insulting.

I did, and my google-fu is pretty good, but yet I found no confirmation. Perhaps you can actually provide a credible citation?

And the only reason why you hate E VERIFY is because of your pro illegal leaning(admit it).
Really? By that logic you love having to get permission from the president in order to work. Right? You must love Obamacare then because the enforcement systems for the citizenry requirement is going to make E-VERIFY look like a molehill.

You know what is insulting?! Having to wait in line for the right to come here but these illegal want AMNESTY(DREAM ACT)

I fully agree. Just not the way you intended. The insulting thing is the waiting in line part - all the hoop-jumping and money required to legally immigrate to the US is despicable. It is like some sort of national hazing requirement and I married a first generation legal immigrant so I have more than a little bit knowledge of how it all works.

High school graduation rate lower for Hispanics

Even though this "paper" is from 2008 and show latinos in general(whether illegal or not) but it is only a few years old and is BASED ON US DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION statistic. Plus you married a legal immigrant/resident for the reason of staying here right?! That would be FRAUD. I should report you to ICE.

reply

Or "Low Hispanic College Graduation Rates Threaten U.S. Attainment Goals" from the BILL AND MELINDA FOUNDATION dated March 18, 2010.

reply

America's immigrations laws ISN'T based on a POEM DIMWIT. Yes america was built by immigrants but the irish and such were LEGAL. They didn't cut the line comprende?! And native americans weren't the first here. It was the clovis people(most likely WHITE).

reply

"It was the clovis people(most likely WHITE)."
Why would you state a thing like that?

From wiki:
"The only human burial that has been directly associated with tools from the Clovis culture included the remains of an infant boy named Anzick-1. Researchers from the United States and Europe conducted paleogenetic research on Anzick-1's ancient nuclear, mitochondrial, and Y-chromosome DNA. The results of these analyses reveal that Anzick-1 is closely related to modern Native American populations."

Most likely not WHITE.

As far as I am concerned the only test for citizenship should be whether or not you pay your taxes. Just like the founding fathers' original beef with the King of England - "No Taxation Without Representation." If you live here and you pay sales/property/income taxes then you deserve representation, i.e. citizenship, just like everyone else.

reply

So the only test for immigration for you is paying taxes?! Even if they got it from CRIMES?! What about having diseases?! A education?! There is a reason why we have immigration requirements(and quotas) and that is so we could take the good ones and reject the bad ones. Plus there are 8 BILLIONS PEOPLE on earth we can't just take everyone in.You are very NAIVE AND A PENDEJOE.

reply

The only test for citizenship that I care about is paying taxes.

You are just fine with "birth right laws" right? The ones that produce those reviled, non-high-school graduating "anchor babies." No? So why not deny full citizenship to anyone with a chronic disease, or criminal conviction or who lacks a college degree? What is the fundamental moral reason to make such dregs of society full citizens? I don't mean legalistic reason, I mean moral reason.

You are very NAIVE AND A PENDEJOE.
Thanks. You are very WISE and A CABALLERO.

reply

True there are those born with birthright citizenship and they turn out to be terrible citizens. And most of those ANCHOR BABIES DIDN'T graduate from high school fool. Statistics shows latinos have very LOW high school graduation rates. And the reason why we don't allow people with diseases or criminal records into our countries is because they AFFECT US ALL PENDEJOE. Look at the SEPTEMBER 11 hijackers. Or if someone bring diseases they could kill us all(WATCH CONTAGION which is fictional but based on REAL SCIENCE). Okay in contagion the one who started the disease spread is an american but she got it from outside the USA. Maybe I should sent a criminal or diseased person UNINVITED to your home RIGHT AWAY TOMORROW. Give me your phone # so I could sent a TAX PAYING criminal or diseased person to your CASA right away.

reply

Like most racists you are everything you accuse "the other" of being.

You aren't even capable enough to cut-n-paste a URL for a citation. Sadly for you, I can use google and found the article you weren't educated enough to know how to link to:

http://northgeorgia.timesfreepress.com/news/2008/mar/27/high-school-gr aduation-rate-lower-hispanics/

So, in your "proof" the numbers are 66% of hispanics graduated versus an overall average of 74% for one school system, another system saw 78% hispanic BETTER than the average of only 75% -- that says the opposite of your claims - MOST DO graduate.

Given how the articles you cite don't even say what you claim they say, you are a terrible example for other racists. I bet you didn't graduate from high school yourself, and if you did then you got ripped off because you are pretty clearly innumerate.

reply

So being anti ILLEGAL MAKES ME A RACIST?! Tell that to hypocrite Mexico. And even if what you said is true hispanics don't value education-not as much as asian. And guess what?! I did graduate from high school and some vocational schools. And the reason why I mention hispanics is because MOST illegals are hispanics.

reply

So being anti ILLEGAL MAKES ME A RACIST?!

In your case it absolutely does. See, when you have a belief about a race based on lies, as you have demonstrated with your own citations, that's pretty much the definition of racism.

Hey, nobody's perfect. My advice to you - own it. Join the minute-man militia. Tell lots of beaner jokes. Wear neo-nazi t-shirts, listen to aryan-movement music. Whatever it takes, just go all in -- don't try to deny your true self, embrace it instead.

reply

Is this a serious question? I mean...really? By the way, for those that think the U.S. is so stringent on immigration...they really aren't compared to other countries. In some countries you can be charged with life in prison or given the death penalty for illegal immigration.

reply

Parallax, our immigration policies are a joke compared to other countries. The USA and Canada are the only developed nations to even have those awful birthright laws.

reply

Sure, let's just open the flood gates. Since you pretend to be so compassionate, I'm sure you won't mind letting about 8 of them stay in your home.

reply

Movie girl: I agree! The only thing that I hear complaints about is that
free medical is given to immigrants and driver's licenses. Also complaints about
gangs and drug cartels in Mexico.

I am certain there
are a lot of very nice people who deserve to live where they want and suffer
because of others who spoil it for them. I went to school with many nice people
from south of the border in the 60's and am saddened by the changes in the last
25 years or so with rules, etc.
