I thought Reg left Del and his family on Del's 16th birthday??

On the episode, A Losing Streak, Del mentions how is father left him and Rodney on his 16th birthday (he took everything, he even took my cake) and this has been mentioned throughout the series, but this hasnt happened in RAC and in fact, he hasnt left at all, even though Del is over 16 in it

Is this a flaw or a glitch? I thought if they were going to do a prequel they would have least made it accurate to the series

If you watch all the series you will probably see a few continuity errors, but I think they've stayed fairly accurate to the Part of the plot regarding Freddie.

I think Del was lying to persuade Rodney that making his bet was ok. Rodney mentioned later on when Rodney as talking to Cassandra, he says he remembers his father and that he and Del got into a fight over Del not turning up to his o-levels, which means Del was over 16 before his mother died and his father walked out.

That depends on when he was born. If he was born in July or August then he may well have already he completed his O Levels before his 16th Birthday.

They've had to change a lot for Rock N Chips. Originally Del stated (in the pilot episode of OFAH) he was 13 when Rodney was born and his Mum was 39 and mistook the pregnancy for the change. In the very early episodes of OFAH's Joan was portrayed more as an old cockney duck who wasn't in good health in her last few years. The glamour and reputation only built up with further episodes and series.

When Reg makes an appearance in the show it transpires he left Del to fend for himself with Rodney (who was 5 or 6) right after Joan died.

By the time we get into the late 1980's and 1990's (and the Christmas episodes), more dates are becoming clearly defined as to when Joan was alive and how old Del would have been when Reg left. It was always felt he was around 17 when Joan died and Reg left, making his year of birth 1947 which was in keeping with the age Del was supposed to be when the series started in 1981.

It was only in Rock N Chips they made him 16 in 1960 which would have meant his year of birth was 1944 and this effectively added 3 years from all the original dates given in OFAH.

Although the school leaving age in 1960 was 15 and as Slater mentions when he nicks Del and Jumbo in the market, if they'd been in school, they'd have known that he (Slater) wasn't a Prefect anymore. Therefore, and I know he looks/acts older, Del is only 14 or 15 in 1960.

However that was only if you didn't sit exams. If you did O levels and/or CSE's it was still 16. We already know that Del did because he didn't attend any of them.
