Terrance Howard as Nelson Mandela???

Now I understand the meaning of gobbed smacked. I don't understand the choice. I think I may actually be offended. Terrance Howard...really?

reply

oh my god!

In my opinion, even Morgan Freeman couldnt pull that role off never mind Terrence!...unless ofcourse hes playing a young Mandela even then dont think that will be up to scratch.

reply

Yeah, I'm also a bit confused. He makes absolutely no sense as Mandela. Morgan Freeman and Sidney Poitier have gotten as close as I think anyone can, and while Terrence Howard is a solid actor he just doesn't fit the part at all. Why don't they just go to South Africa and pick an unknown actor who actually fits the part?

Darryl Roodt is a terrific director. "Yesterday" is a devastatingly beautiful movie. I feel like Jennifer Hudson was a good choice for Winnie Mandela and I think she'll work hard to prove herself. Terrence Howard is a good actor and, on second glance he does actually resemble Mandela as a young man. I'm sure they'll darken his skin the way they did with Forest Whitaker in "The Last King of Scotland."

I am the daughter of South African ex-pats and I suppose I might be a bit too attached to dear Madiba to believe any actor in the role completely. I suppose, on second thought, Terrence Howard might not have been too bad a choice. It could have been worse. I just hope they bring on some South African actors to fill out the supporting roles.

Terrance Howard, so far, is doing an excellent job as the young Nelson, he is tall, charming, intelligent, his skin tone and hair cut is spot on, he pairs up perfectly with Jennifer, who looks awesome too, and yes, Darrell had cast some pretty cool South African actors to play other important roles along side them.

It is invaluable for our local actors to be able to act along side experienced foreign actors, from whom they have the opportunity to hone their skills.

Unfortunately, a living wage, for most South African actors, lies in soapies, and man, they are bad, not for soapie lovers, but,....man, they are bad!

you know, i think Terrence is good for this role in that he embodies this emotinal vulnerability that i don't see from most actors now days. He is soo emotionally there with his characters, and I love that about him. He also has this very charming yet soft draw to him that is really flatering; almost cunning... I will give him a try. We will see...

Terrance is obviously playing a YOUNG Mandela.

reply

Prosthetics and make up was used to transform him for the older role, as well as his excellent acting skills.

I was pretty impressed from what I saw on camera.

reply

Take it from a South African, he looks remarkably similiar to a young Madiba

reply

God Bless You!!!!!! I couldn't agree more. There are FAR more talented actors who would have done this rule justice.

reply

It's a bit silly of you to judge Terrance, before even seeing the film, I have not seen it, but was on the set, and I tell you, he had people captivated with his performances.

Watch the film, THEN, say your say.

reply

Cuba Gooding jr would have been a better choice as a young Mandela.

Terrance was actually a good choice. You want to keep the focus on Winnie and have a actor that will make a good balance and chemistry but not steal the spotlight. Terrance did those things.
