Sasha Alexander to direct for season 7!

I just read this piece of news and I'm so happy about it: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/rizzoli-isles-sasha-alexander-direct-876799

It's no secret that I (and many other Sasha/Maura fans) have been very disappointed and angry with showrunner Jan Nash for pushing Maura to the sidelines in recent seasons and turning this once great show into a dismal "Rizzoli family show", I think many of us loyal Sasha/Maura fans have been feeling that Sasha/Maura has been very under-appreciated on this show, especially by Jan Nash. So it's small comfort for us to know that Sasha herself at least will be directing an episode for the upcoming season...although that doesn't necessarily mean that Maura will be given more attention and screen-time next season like she so deserves, but being able to direct an episode is actually a big deal for any actor, and usually that tends to mean that the production crew has alot of faith in the actor to give him/her this privilege to direct. So even though it's possible that Maura as a character might still be pushed to the sidelines next season, but to know that Sasha has been given this great opportunity to direct an episode for the show is still good news. And hopefully that also means that she and her character Maura will be given more focus and appreciation in season 7 like she deserves.

And I can't wait to watch the episode that Sasha will be directing, she's such a talented and very under-rated actress, this is a great opportunity for her to showcase more of her talents this time as a director, and I have faith in her because she had studied directing in college and she's actually married to a film director, so I'm sure her hubby has given her some advice too.

Not to disagree with your points, but just fyi, it's not a privilege that's given to people because someone has faith in them.
Sasha is one of the two people carrying the show, so she basically just has to put her foot down and say "at least let me direct an episode after all the *beep* scripts you've given me - or I won't do another season."
In fact, I suspect it kinda was like that. Sasha is smart enough to know that Nash's crapfest looks bad on her resume (no challenging scenes to act in, no critical acclaim etc.) so she would have been well advised to at least get some directing credits in exchange for this *beep* hand that Nash keeps dealing her.
And remember, Angie is directing an episode too. So it's really not about talent but just about negotiating the best deal for yourself.

I am just glad Sasha won the 2016 People's Choice Awards for Favorite Cable TV Actress and Jan Nash's favourite girl Angie didn't.

I agree, I'm so glad Sasha won that award and not Angie Harmon...Sasha is 1 of the most talented actors I've seen and is 1 of the most under-rated and under-appreciated, she deserves that award, and any 'Best Actress' award for that matter.

I did not know that Angie Harmon will be directing an episode too...I guess you have a point, this whole favoritism that Jan Nash has for Angie Harmon is so obvious and annoying.

As for why I thought it's a 'privilege' for an actor to be able to direct an episode of his/her own show is because I know some other actors who've been fortunate to direct an episode for a show they've starred in or appeared in and in some of their cases, they've seemed to have been treated very well by producers. Such as Mariska Hargitay who has already directed several episodes of her own show 'Law & Order SVU', she's obviously being treated as the star of the show and the show's MVP. So I was under the impression that for Sasha to also be given the opportunity to direct an episode of a show she stars in, was an indication that she has been given the same privilege and same treatment by the R&I crew. Of course that was before I knew Angie Harmon was also directing an episode...now that I think about it more, I can believe it if Sasha had negotiated her deal to direct an episode, rather than it be given to her, I would hate to think that was the case though...my opinions about Jan Nash are already bad as they are, I don't want to dislike her even more.
I suppose it just depends on who the actor is and the circumstances.
