Confused at the end (contains some spoilers)

I don't understand what happened near the end when it looked like Ray Liotta's character shot Nick (Sean Faris)dead when he was in the hospital bed. Then after Ray Liotta's character walks out of the room it says 1 week later and Nick is alive and with his wife putting together the baby's crib. Can anyone explain this to me?

reply

He didn't shoot Nick. He shot Aaron the cook from the diner. He was part of the bad guys too.

reply

Oh that's who that was, the guy laying face down with his face all bloody every brief time he was shown on screen? Other than the ending the movie was good. The big reveal is that some guy that I think only had 1 line in that flashback at the end of the movie was the guy leaking information, wow. Good movie with a horrible ending.

reply

I had to rewind that scene to process it correctly, I really thought that he shot Nick & I was like WTF? Those two guys were practically identical especially in the angle they showed the cook in the hospital bed. I agree the ending had zero impact and could have been much better. It's like bits of the story were filled in too late & too haphazardly.

i thought it was Nick too. they looked a lot alike!

reply

i thought the the busboy who layed on the kitchen floor for 3/4 of the movie was the informant.

reply

"i thought the the busboy who layed on the kitchen floor for 3/4 of the movie was the informant. "

And you thought right because it really was him.

reply

It, at least to me, really is accurate that Aaron is the busboy, not the cook. Maybe we never saw the cook.

So thankful for this explanation. This movie makes more sense now. I like others wondered why Nick was still alive but then I thought to myself it was just like the rewind time at the beginning with the cop but I guess it wasn't eh. Anyway again thanks for the explanation in regards to the ending.

reply

I thought it was Nick too but now knowing otherwise it helps.

reply

yes, LittleGloves is correct, it was Aaron who had gone into the Hospital.

Where did you see the movie? Some if It was filmed in my house and we're dying to see it, please tell me thanks!!

reply

The informant being the waiter/cook (who was essentially AN EXTRA) was disappointing. It feels like the writer couldn't figure out how to end it in a clever way.

reply

lol that's no extra... granted he hasn't been seen much but that's jonathan bennett, the dude from Mean Girls (2004)

It's mercy, compassion and forgiveness I lack. Not rationality...

reply

It seems like the twist wasn't so much that it was a minor character but that it wasn't Nick. Like most people I just assumed it was him talking. I agree it would have worked better if it was a more substantial character

reply

I had to rewind, too. I thought he shot Nick.
I got the feeling Nick's brother was a dirty cop, and this was a change in bosses.

reply

I was also initially a bit confused about just who that character was, but my wife immediately recognized it as the cook and thought I was a moron for not doing the same. She has a better eye for faces than I do sometimes . . . at least if they're men instead of women.

reply

Yeah, I also didn't quite know who that was and I had to go back and look at it. I thought it was Nick's brother at first, but then when he showed up at his brother's house 'A Week Later', I had to go back and figure out WHO the hell that was!

BUTT... And it is a BIG BUTT like Mariah Carey's... I do NOT feel in ANY way that that took away from the ending. Sure, it was a guy who we hardly saw throughout the film, but so bloody what...?!!! The movie wasn't PRIMARILY about 'OOH, who was the informant'...!?? NO... That was merely a plot point that explained exactly WHY the hell all of this happened in the first place. As far as WHO it was, to me personally anyway, that doesn't make a frigg'n flying $H|T of a difference...

So, I do NOT think that that 'Ruined' the end or took away from it at all; that WASN'T what the film was about...

But, back to your specific post here; YES, all 3 actors happened to look quite a bit alike, so that was VERY confusing. I think that maybe the film makers just did that purposely to screw with us a little. It is kind of like the fascinating way the film opened, and then mysteriously rewound itself and then played out differently. I could not figure out any SPECIFIC reason for that; I think they just did it to make it more interesting.

I have over 5000 films, many of them very rare and OOP. I LOVE to trade. PLEASE ASK!

reply

yes i can see how it can be confusing because Sean Faris and Jonathan Bennet look pretty much identical. At the start of the film I thought the main character managed to get a job as a cook after leaving prison, then I realised its not the same guy.

it also helped that i recognised jonathan bennet from Mean Girls fame.

when ray liotta is talking throughout the movie to someone on the hospital bed we are supposed to be lead that it's Nick as they only ever show the bottom of his face. Only at the end after he shoots him do we see it's the cook.

i guess it was a deliberate decision to cast 2 guys who look the same so we can be tricked into thinking it was nick in the hospital bed all the way through the movie.

reply

Thanks for asking. I didn't understand that either.
