worthless and childish

If ur a true martial arts movie fan like me, if u seen the top hong kong movies like wheels on meals, police story, drunken master, black mask, fist of legend, who am I, hell ye even five lucky stars, the further back in time u go the more u notice how bad they are acting but still the action and fighting is light years ahed of any other country when it comes to martial arts on the screen, u know that there are some wierd jokes, some of them are actual funny and some of them are stupid, they do wierd expressions with their faces and their acting and dialog are wierd, worse in some movies, decent in others, however u can still live with it just becuse of the action, u can live with jackie chan being a cop in half of his movies, but imagine all this that was actually bad with old hong kong movies, take the absolutely worst acting, the worst comments and worst jokes that no one ( except the chinese ) understand, becuse to many of us china has a wierd life style and how they see things, even worse to people who arent that into fighting movies, thats why they have a hard time getting out of hong kong, but if u take all these, make it even worse, put some more goofing around into a movie, *beep* actors that fight while siting down drinking wine, put all this into a movie where they try to make capoeira and brake dance look good as a fighting style and on top of that, they will allways be drunk when they fight and they do a terrible job acting drunk, and ye the fight scenes are *beep* LAUGHABLE, they do so wierd things that even a *beep* baby would be a ble to punch them down before they get to the point with their moves.

No add a story, it shouldnt make sense at all, the audience shouldnt at all get any connection at all with the head actress, does she ever eat? she learnt this art over night? wtf is going on? what is the purpose of all this?

I dont *beep* know nor do I care, im just dissapointed with the quality of the movies the asians are bringing us these times, the only ones u still can count on are jackie chan, jet li, donnie yen and sammo hung ofc.

There are some decent highlights troughout the fighting scenes, I give them that, but other then that, this is not worth it, I saw half the movie only, and I dont want to see more. thank god for utorrent, glad I didnt pay for this *beep*

I agree with most of what you're saying. Director was too busy trying to make everything look cool so the movie looks as Converse commercial with hipster breakdancers posing on the beach. I quite liked JeeJa's previous movie Chocolate but was disappointed by this one.

you are an idiot. can you do a backflip? can you do one and a half butterfly twists off a ledge and knee someone in the head without hurting them??!?!

this movie had amazing amounts of skill in it and the reason they dont act the best or develop plot the best is because half the time they are breaking they body off trying not kick each others faces after doing butterfly twists....bruce lee jackie chan and jet li are all amazing and those movies could all blow this one out of the water possibly but i have never EVER seen any of those guys do a double butterfly twist....so you can shut up.

"I dont *beep* know nor do I care, im just dissapointed with the quality of the movies the asians are bringing us these times"

you spelled disappointed wrong and you followed it up with calling them the asians...you sound like a bigot. and i dont like you. if a baby could knock one of the actors out before they execute they move you are on rock cocaine...i doubt you could even for a second do anything in this movie let alone choreograph a fight scene with these martial artists...

OH AND YOU ARE HATING ON CAPOEIRA???!
your a fool man
i know many mestres that would whoop your *beep* ass without using that much capoeira at all...the whole reason for this movie is too be flashy..its not like any of the people in the movie would actually do a coffee grinder to face kick
its all for show
that would be like calling inception stupid because they float around in the air...its all for show man
so why dont you just lighten up and shut up until you yourself makes a martial arts movie that has more talent in it than this one

OH WAIT THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN
kay ihope you die and i hate you
thanks

One thing that all fans (and even non-fans) of martial arts action is that, being film, it does not have to replicate real life. The whole idea of a martial arts action film is to entertain the audience, and that quite often means breaking free (or at least straying a little away from) what techniques might work in real life. A real fight would be over in about ten seconds (if that) and have far fewer flashy kicks and flips etc, which might be more realistic but would unlikely be doing something as important as entertaining the audience.

Another challenge that people making these kinds of movies face is that there have been so many such movies since the days of Bruce Lee that it can be quite a challenge to make them look different from anything that's gone before. I'm still unsure as to whether I enjoyed Raging Phoenix as a film, but the stuff that goes on in the fight scenes I thought was unique enough to warrant giving it a look at least.

What kinda fight takes ten seconds. Fights go normaly until someones winded and noone gets winded that fast. Some fights take that long before the first punch lands.

I've seen quite a few bar fights and they are usually over VERY quickly; some led to some very nasty, very sudden knock-outs.

Most real fights don't last long, especially when compared to film fights.

The ability to do a backflip is not a prerequisite to criticize any film

This movie is stupid, and it makes Drunken Master look like a masterpiece. Still, I would challenge you on the fighting. None of the movies you mention represent "Real Martial Arts" fighting. Even Jet Li used wireworks for many of his earlier HK/Chinese movies. And his American movies have been pretty disappointing. Shaw Brother films that featured actors like Gordon Liu, often sped up the film to make it feel more exciting.

They obviously stole the breakdancing from Chocolate, where I felt it was used very effectively.

And you can count on Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung? Jackie Chan has made some bad movies in the past, mostly involving kids and Sammo Hung is nearly 50 and none of this current stuff is even close to what the kids are doing phyically.

While the fighting style isn't realistic, I still admire the physically of it, as well as the fact the Thai also don't use stunt doubles.

But I agree that the movie sucks in terms of storyline, acting and tone. But, even Tony Jaa's acting is horrible.

As for the discussion about fights, after the first punch is thrown, most fights are over in 10 seconds. Most people don't have the physicality to more than a minute. I know, I've been in plenty, and observed even more.

If you want to see some good fights (and don't care if they are realistic or not), I found that Jackie Chan is great in Operation Condor (final fight in the nazi missle silo) and the final fight in Who am I?

As for other movies, while it is more of a superhero movie, I found that the Korean movie Arahan has a huge fight scene, and of course, if you like realism, one of the best brawls is the one take, one shot fight in Old Boy.

The dancing was a gimmick that was only present for a few of the early scenes. I don't know why it didn't come into play later on in the movie.

These are very talented martial artists, and I don't see your problem with this, other than "when I was young..."

There are better martial arts films, yes, but a lot of these stunts and moves are excellent! These choreographed pieces are very elaborate, putting to shame many movies of both my and your youth.

Let me add to this that these are mostly practical work, no close-up shots to hide stunt men, and while there is some wire work (I assume), it's not ridiculous.
