My wife and I kept saying the same thing. I realize its a movie, but this little tidbit kind of smacks you in the face throughout the movie.

I wondered about that, and allowed myself to believe either they added a huge gas tank in the trunk (after it was stolen) or had a pre-arranged refueling stop (that was too boring for us to see on screen). It's all about suspension of disbelief.

they could have easily showed the vet leaving a station would have been like 15 secs.

I thought the same thing when I watched 'Vacation' when I was 10 years old. I wondered how the family could travel over 2,000 miles on only one refuel, but then I came to the conclusion that it would be ridiculous to film all 5/6 times he stopped for gas. It just wasn't important.

How come people keep mentioning this? Is it really a stretch to think they installed a 100 gallon tank in the trunk before he took possession of it? To be honest, there are a lot more stupid things in this turd. I'll admit though that I'm not studying this like a treasure map but wasn't the car stolen prior to the escape? Lots of time to put run-flat tires, supplemental fuel tank, etc, etc, etc. Besides that, I'm sure there were fuel stops along the way. Do you really have to see every time that chucklehead pulls up, gets gas and then kills the clerk.

I'm not defending this 3 coil steamer but come on!

Fuel weighs approx 6lbs/gal. So a 100 gallon tank would weigh at least 600 lbs (probably more like 700 when you add in the weight of the tank itself.

I think multiple refueling stops is a more believable alternative.

To be honest, I thought there would be more threads about the near indestructibility of the car than the gas. I never even considered the gas question until I came to IMDB.

I watched it and assumed the guy stopped for gas when he needed it. Silly me.

I assumed it was nuclear-powered, just like the Sheriff, the robot from the future.

It does get something like 26 mph on the highway.
