Peter Stormare's accent was what, exactly?

Southern? I don't even know what he was going for.

Generic Bad Guy accent. Probably having fun with it to keep from getting bored doing this movie.

reply

Terrible, haha! But yes, I believe it was supposed to be Southern.

reply

He was from the League of Evil Guys With Extraordinarily Bad Accents. I thought everybody knew about them. They appear in movies all the time, but never in the novel versions since they just can't be appreciated in those.

reply

It's all about the accent. He's never going to get into the Evil League of Evil with that kind of laugh. Do you think Bad Horse never practiced his Death Whinny?

This. It was his actual voice. Typical Swedish-born sound to it!

He sounded exactly the same as in Minority Report.

Is it just me or did the accent change over the course of the movie?

reply

Just you.

Your friends have told me you changed a LOT over the course of the movie - they didn't even recognize you afterwards.

His accent, not so much.

As a Texan with a heavy accent, I take accents seriously in movies, but not this one for some reason.

Stormare's character seemed to suggest to me that he's an Eastern European with a huge fascination with Southern and western cowboy lore. At first, I criticized his terrible accent, but as more of his mannerisms and decisions were shown, it became obvious to me that his silly accent was fully intentional for the character and then I enjoyed it.

He seemed to be a national level terrorist, but with his "gunfighter" western style suit, his willingness to play "draw," and his choice of a highly out of date single action Colt Dragoon (manufactured from 1848-1860) indicates to me he is a fanatical Western movie lover. Naturally, his European character would even try to imitate a southern accent along with his whole persona as something of an 1800's cowboy. Even one of his henchmen at the farm wheres a full length western duster, so maybe that guy was sucking up to the boss.

Unlike Colin Firth in the horrid "Main Street," I think this was an intentional bad southern accent to further the popcorn flick theme in fulfilling a need for a colorful unique villain.

All in all, I greatly enjoyed his performance and I enjoyed this old-fashioned American action popcorn flick.

Was supposed to be southern, but yeah I agree. I enjoy Peter Stormare as an actor, possibly has some to do with him being Swedish like me and he seems like a genuinly likeable guy but yeah he can't play an American to save his life.

Wish he'd get proper lessons I'm sure he could manage if he put disciplined himself into it.

But until then maybe stick to playing Russian baddies instead.

He's always, always, in everything I've ever seen him in had that hybrid accent

I don't think he even tries to change it and I wouldn't want him to

Intoxicating

reply

I imagine so as he was trying to sound like a Southern redneck whatever, either that or he was a wannabe redneck

His accent was as lousy as it is in every american movie he does.
Not this is spoken from a man who is a swede, just like Stormare.

He plays the same way in every american movie.
I do like him thou, but only when he plays in swedish movies. There he is often great.
