New Series!

9pm tonight on Discovery (in the UK).

Just saw an advert for another new series. Great news, this fun show really needs more recognition.

What cars are they doing for the UK viewers? Do USA viewers get to see the same brand new stuff, or is there a delay of a couple of months?

reply

There appears to be a huge delay. I don't believe we have had a fresh episode in quite a while. I'm guessing we are a year a part somewhat.

In the US, we're getting a "new" series tonight... well, new to us anyways. It seems to be some of the older shows not seen here repackaged for our viewing pleasure. I think it's called "Wheeler Dealer: The Early Years."

Just watching a series here in the UK called "Wheeler Dealers - Trading Up". They're clearly targeting at the US market as whenever money is mentioned, Mike converts it in to dollars for us, which grates a bit after a while. Not really sure why they need to do that, I'm sure you're all capable of doing that for yourself.

I love this program though. I must have been watching it on and off for about 10 years.

I think that the only time I bothered to convert was when Mike sold the Dodge Charger and threw in the tank of petrol (I just wanted to compare fuel prices). I think that by this point in the show, no one really cares if the guys make a profit, or how much it cost in dollars. There's probably an app for that, and I can definitely see how you would find that annoying.

Besides, part of the enjoyment is the distinct British culture ingrained in the show (at least here in the US). There's plenty of shows here where they rebuild old cars (I just watched the new Overhaulin last night). This American does not want Wheeler Dealers to be "Americanized."

Fuel has always being expensive in the UK but I guess they don't have to drive the distances you do in many other countries. Even though fuel prices are somewhere in between the US and UK here in Australia there's no way I could afford to use that Charger as a 'daily driver'.
