Used to like it....

Then I watched the Audi Quattro episode where Mike clearly lies about the amount the car he purchased was advertised for. I can only guess it was to make his negotiations seem a little bit (£600) more effective.

What exactly was the point of lying? They make a loss quite regularly and no one cares, it's just interesting to see the cars and how they nurse them back to health.

You don't need to lie to boost your wheeler dealer reputation Mike.

Now I just think you suck, all the figures, swaps, details are nonsense and Ed does 99% of the work. In fact the premise of the show would work better if Ed bought the cars too, he wouldn't be buying half these donkeys that need major work and some money might be made.

reply

Yeah, but then we wouldn't get the playful bickering between Ed and Mike that makes the show charming.

reply

Charming? I've met mike brewer, he's a knob! I also know for a fact that the whole show is a lie just for the cameras. They fabricate everything in the show. Parts don't come for what they claim they cost or indeed where they claim to source them. A for Edd China, he's just a bodge merchant. Anyone with the slightest hint of mechanical knowledge could tell he just throws things together with little competence. He's no more than a less than averagely competent home mechanic, much less a specialist!
Don't be fooled, this whole thing is a con!

Home mechanic? The guy is better than most specialist mechanics I know. He does pretty much everything from refurbing interiors, panel beating, to anything engine related. I think he also builds stuff for other BBC shows. Skilled is an understatement.

Isnt he an inventor aswell?

Edd is quite good at what he does and Im sure if he was working on his own cars he would do an even better job as thy are clearly on a tight time scale. I must have watched 90-95% of the shows and can not think of a single bodge job but can think of quite a few examples of good workmanship.

There is no doubt the show is more for entertainment than a documentary but that is no different to most of the stuff on the discovery channel anyway.

reply

Says a lot about the specialists you know then!

reply

You haven't got a clue what you're talking about. All the work that Edd does is top notch.

reply

I can only guess what a bodge is because I'm an American but Edd seems competant to me. And beyond patient!

I like how he'll rebuilt something rather than just replace something. In America, they'd just rip something out and replace it with whatever some manufacturer was plugging.

I like the different selection of cars, too. We have a dozen shows in the US that just do the same tired muscle car and truck projects. Mike picks cool vehicles from different countries that have different things going for them.

A bodge job is a job that is a quick & easy fix with littlest effort that will work.

You don't have the faintest clue about what you are talking about, which, ironically, means you don't have the "slightest hint of mechanical knowledge" that you mentioned. Edd is not only an excellent mechanic, but he is an excellent fabricator, welder, and body man as well. He's also an excellent problem solver, to the point that he can solve problems even when there is no standard solution (such as a bolt-on replacement part from the parts store) available. This goes well beyond what a typical mechanic from e.g., your local car dealership is capable of.

Some of his electrical practices leave something to be desired, i.e., sometimes soldering instead of properly crimping, (though he obviously understands actual electrical theory very well, at least as it pertains to car wiring), but other than that, his skills are very impressive.

I don't dance, tell jokes or wear my pants too tight, but I do know about a thousand songs.

reply

That's the point, to show what YOU as a home mechanic can do. If the show is fabricated I can assure you Edd did the fabrication
