Hipster who bought the SL560....

Never have I wanted Mike to send a buyer packing as much as that smug little turd.

Mike: "The car is listed for $25K"

Hipsterdoosh: "I'll give you 20. It's not worth 25."

Get away from me, kid. You bother me.

How's that any different from when Mike originally bought the SL and offered the seller half of the $10,000 he wanted?

It's been a while, so I don't remember the specifics of how he bought this car. However, one of the things I like about Wheeler Dealers is that Mike can negotiate, but he rarely crosses the line into rip-off territory (unlike a show like Gas Monkey Garage that only appears to turn a profit because the owner appears to shockingly low-ball people).

Buyers whittle Mike down on this show all the time, but they are usually polite about it and that's all part of negotiation. This guy just came across as a total jerk.

One thing I've noticed is that Mike's a tough negotiator when buying the cars. He usually gets them down to a low price. But on the back end, when selling the finished cars, he practically gives them away to the first person to come along. Maybe it's because in the latter case, they're in a hurry to sell it, so they can finish filming the episode.

At any rate, the real money they make is from their TV contracts, not from the small profits they make on each car, which after factoring in labor, wouldn't be profits at all.

I'd wager that the people selling their cars to Mike sell them for less money than they otherwise would, and not because Mike is sucha an incredible negotiator. The stardom of Mike and the fact they're on camera has something to do with it, I'm sure. Maybe they feel pressured. I don't mean that anyone from the show or Mikes pressures them, it's just that it's a different type of scenario than when anyone else comes along to buy your car.
