Americanised

Love the show but I watch all the American ones showing all the great American cars so would prefere if he stuck to European cars, I know he does them too on American side but what's the point in that. Maybe if he was shipping , repairing and selling uk cars there then might add a twist, example ,buy escort cosworth here , take it fix it and sell it there.or do a budget version series for new drivers ( more of tutorial than profit)like cars you can buy and fix up yourself easy like old corsa etc. Love it still though .

They're just following the money.

Today's TV market is a global one and if you get a hit in the world's largest such market then as the saying goes, make hay while the sun shines.

It's tripe now ruined a classic I've watched for 12 years thanks Discovery

Correct it pish now

I've never heard so much dollars, motors, hoods in all my life!

This is clearly going out to American audiences also and WTF is Mike working on the cars?

No no no, whilst the original had it's annoying over scripted bits (Ed conveniently finding the exact same issues Mike highlights in the test drive) it was still wayyyyyyy better than this guff

reply

I don't know what is going on with the new series, it's so turned into a drama. Why is Mike working on the meters??? Please go back it's stupid, also neither Mike or ed are actors and it shows

I jumped straight into S13, purposely avoiding S12 due to the high level of criticism thrown at it from all corners - and not just from IMDb

After 12 years of watching in wonderment the previous 11 seasons, I couldn't quite believe the complete and utter sell-out S13 has become! I barely recognise the format anymore; take away Ed & Mike and it could be any default car rebuild show; but even with the two regulars, I just couldn't quite believe this was the same WD of yesteryear!

I really don't know why the show packed its bags and shipped off to the States, other than for reasons of money and ratings. But it seems a great shame that WD has lost its soul to the mighty dollar and become just another piece of the corporate jigsaw.

I hope if there's a S14, it will return to its roots and focus on the fact that big isn't always better.

Why would they move a successful series from Great Britain to the United States?

Great Britain: population 64 million, GDP 2.7 trillion (US Dollars), primary language English

United States of America: population 320 million, GDP 16.8 trillion (US dollars), primary language English, well, sort of.

We have a saying: "Money talks and *that stuff* walks." I do have to admit that I too like it better when they focus on European cars and redo them at home. I know about American muscle cars having grown up with them. But, I also understand that not only is there more potential advertising profits here, they also make more money with nearly every car they fix up and resell here than those in England.

I haven't seen S13 yet, because it hasn't been aired yet here in the U.S. But S12 was half in the U.S., and half in the U.K.

Personally, I don't have a problem with them changing things up a bit after that many years. That's what shows need to do to stay fresh.

Lots of b!tching about the show selling out or jumping the shark. Well people, I guess you guys are going to have to start watching something else. The only thing I worry about the show is that they might run out of interesting cars to feature. The 1916 Cadillac was stretching it a bit.
