Maybe the makers of this film left the ending vague because they could not think of a decent conclusion. So they left the ending up to the imaginations of the viewers. So here goes! To have a happy ending, Bob 2 had to have been killed in the crash on Earth 2. If Bob 2 was still alive, there is no way Bob 1 would be welcome. Why did Rhoda 2 come to Earth 1? Since she left for Earth 1 the same time Bob 1 left for Earth 2, she would have no idea Bob 1 was coming. So maybe Rhoda 2 left because of the guilt trip for killing Bob 2 or maybe she was just being adventurous.

It wasn't vague at all. These filmmakers always give you the answer at the end, with one quick clue. It is up to the viewer to "catch it". The well dressed, and successful Rhoda2 tells us that she got her scholarship, education and career, meaning that there was no crash on Earth2. John1 will get to see his wife and child on Earth2. And the time frame of the ending is not indicated, Rhoda2 may well have met with John1, and be visiting Earth1 months, or even years later.

Why would Rhoda2 come to Earth1? If there was no crash on Earth2, Both Johns would want the same family. That would never work.

John1 is not there to steal the family or even to share it, just to see them again. John2 would let him visit, at least I know I would if it was me. Rhoda2 probably found out why John1 was there, and then decided to go visit Rhoda1, to tell her everything turned out alright on her world.

If the worlds were in parallel, they would have left for the other Earths at the same time. If Rhoda 2 had gone to school and was successful, she would have no reason to visit Earth1!

They two Earths were running differently after the first sighting.

I'm gonna ignore all the replies and just say this.

I liked the movie... But it was pants. too much shenanigans for an ultimately pale ending. Oh we can assume this or that, or interpret this or that or... I can do that on my own, don't need a movie to lead me to water, where I cannot drink.

Here's a movie... guess what. The end.

Baloney. Still, till the end, it did keep me entertained. slowly... slowly...
