Ending

I think the ending is pretty straight forward. Rhonda was partially atoned for her crime and subsequent guilt by gifting John the slight chance (assuming his wife & kid didn't in crash, which is very low likelihood as I'll explain) of seeing his family again with the ticket to earth 2. Johns character arc ends and its irrevelant to focus on what happens if/when he makes it to earth 2. Now while Rhonda is partially stoned, she will only find inner peace by making amends with herself. Enter Rhonda 2. The only sensible way Rhonda 2 wins that ticket totravel to earth 1 is if she killed johns family, goes to prison and writes that letter. We know this bc she won by identifying with the gifter of the ticket as he saw how easily his success could have crumbled and become a convict just like her. She won that ticket bc she had such fall from grace - that doesn't happen without the accident and the subsequent events. The only difference is for whatever reason John 2 never receives the tickets / doesn't accept it from Rhonda 2 (explained by the divergence between the two parallel worlds upon realizing of each other's existence). The whole point of Rhonda 2 is so that 1&2 make amends and learn for forgive themselves to ultimately attain true solace. You can think of Rhonda 2 as simply an external representation of the process of forgiveing oneself.
