The opening credits

This was the first British show I saw that had proper tv credits. Most British shows used to (and many still do) had kind of a 90's intro, with just names overlaid some dated graphic as nondescript music played. This show really served as the changing point in the UK's new tv movement.

First of all, the song kicks major a$$. One of the best intro songs ever.

Secondly, the graphics are so simple, but totally cute. The editing was really on point, and I absolutely loved the little clues we got when the characters drifted on and off screen. Using paper dolls to represent the gang was adorable (esp loved that Kelly's had a ponytail).

But the eastern eggs! Curtis's shadow going backward as he jogged forward, summed up both his character and his powers perfectly. Simon's shadow actually disappeared halfway across the screen, which was a wonderfully subtle reference to his invisibility and feelings of not being noticed or seen by people. Nathan's - the wolf following behind him - was a little obscure, but this was probably done to keep his powers a secret. In retrospect, it works, bc it serves nicely as a reference to a werewolves, who are - for the most part - immortal and can heal themselves. Also, we learn quickly that his stepdad sometimes thinks he's a dog.

The women's were more lame, but Kelly picking her head up to look around like she'd just heard something, as sound waves rolled toward her, was kind of cool. Alisha had a really stupid power, so I'm not surprised they copped out on her intro. It looked like she was sending off pheromones, bc the waves around her were rolling outward, rather than toward her, like Kelly's. But, Alisha looked super bored leaning against the wall while texting, so it was kind of a ??? moment to me.

All in all, they really knew how to stretch that paltry English tv budget into something special.

Actually in the opening credits the animal following Nathan isn't a werewolf. At least I don't think so. I think it's a representation of Black Dog. Black Dog is a symbol of death in British folklore. It's following Nathan, then it stops. That a subtle foreshadowing of his immortality.

Though I do agree with you. I loved the opening credits. Though I do wish they'd changed them as the powers changed.

Clever things make people feel stupid and unexpected things make them feel scared

I didn't know that about the dog! Thanks for telling me. At first, I wasn't sure if it was referencing his stepfather, but I figured that wasn't important enough to the plot to be represented. Once we found out about Nathan's power, it made more sense.

I would've switched up the Alisha and Kelly graphics though. I just rewatched it and Kelly has the waves going outward, and Alisha's were going inward. Seeing as Kelly receives thoughts and Alisha sends out pheromones, it would've been better the other way around.

And I completely agree with changing the graphics for the 2nd/3rd season. I'm curious to see what they would've done with Curtis's new sex change power, Simon as Superhoodie and Alisha's transient POV. Also, Rudy really deserved his own graphic, seeing as he was the longest cast member. It would've been cool to see his shadow break into two.
