I had the same thought about traveling between the island and boat.
shareNo, I think the giant shipwreck (which is obviously not their little ship) is just to show that Silka has been drawing sailors to the island for a while... this wasn't her first rodeo. There's probably a whole graveyard of ships crashed out there. That kind of thing.
The large wreck didn't look like special effects... they probably found a wreck somewhere that fit into that theme and shot the scenes there. Too bad they couldn't have gone to one of the shipbreaking areas and shot the scene there with dozens of wrecked and stripped boats in the background. Might have hammered that point home a bit more. Or would that be too over the top?
