These SyFy originals keep getting better.

I think this is their best original yet.

To be fair, this is actually an "After Dark Original". But I think Husk, and 51 were both awful. I'm hoping this one turns out to be much better, but I have my doubts.

It wasn't bad... took itself fairly seriously. nice cast. it was a fun cheesy B movie. wish Lance Henricksen had been in it longer tho.

That's the problem. It can't be "fun and cheesy" and "take it's self seriously" at the same time. The problem with the film was that it DID take it's self so seriously.

I real horror film will take itself seriously, generally speaking. Why? Because once an element of goofy humor or camp is introduced it becomes impossible to take seriously and therefore it's viritually impossible to be scared, except for silly jump-scare scenes.

Taking the material seriously is of the utmost importance if the filmmakers intend to make a REAL horror film. "Goblin" is a good TV-movie example. It might've been a low-budget flick but it's an effective horror film precisely because the filmmakers and cast take the material seriously.
