Based on the creeptastic trailer, it definitely has potential. The "seven days" curse is similar to The Ring, but I'm curious to see who/what the villain is. Looks like an evil spirit that possesses its victims.
It's been a while since I saw a horror film that stayed with me like The Ring (2002) or The Blackcoat's Daughter (2015).
It looks like it has potential. It has a little bit of an hipster horror vibe to it though. It's like someone took 'elevated' horror and tried make it actually scary and unsettling, a bit of a hybrid film.
I wouldn't dream of this film measuring up to The Ring (2002), which is one of the greatest of all time.
I thought The Blackcoats Daughter was just alright. I could see this film surpassing it.
I agree with you about The Ring. It's one of those movies that just always stays with you. The first time I saw it was an evening show and when I got home I remember staring at the ceiling for hours before finally falling asleep.
Smile is Parker Finn's first full length feature film so it'll be interesting to see his style.
Interesting. The Ring is one of my all time favorite horror movies and it's actually responsible for getting me into horror movies to begin with. On the other hand, the Blackcoat's Daughter is one of my least favorite horror movies. There were some things I liked about it, but ultimately I felt that it didn't have much substance. (lol later one realized it's by the same guy who did The Pretty Thing Lives in the House, and I'm just like, well that figures).
At any rate, in addition to the 7 day curse, it does have that investigative vibe that The Ring had. I often dig those types of horror films: mystery/suspense sort of narrative. Really looking forward to this. Trailer fucked me up when I saw it.
I think I fell asleep twice while watching The Pretty Thing That Lives in the House.
The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016) has a type of investigative plot that definitely kept my attention.
I wish I fell asleep during The Pretty Thing lol but nah awake the whole time.
I saw that film a few years back. That was one of the scariest films I'd seen in years. Hell, even my dad liked it, and he typically hates horror movies.
Most recent example of an investigative horror that I've seen hmmm... I saw The Empty Man on HBO Max. It's a little bit long, and a little bit sloppy, but it's well filmed. I wouldn't say it's great, but it's entertaining enough.

Considering how intense The Blackcoat's Daughter was, I was shocked how boring Pretty Thing was (both directed by Oz Perkins, son of Anthony). I still haven't seen Perkins' third film Gretel & Hansel.

shareI agree, but The Ring is a quite bit better. However this is not terrible. It's rather decent considering most modern horror, I thought it was rather fresher and even though the ending was obviously going to occur, it has it's scary moments and I think it works.
