I know some people thought Shannon's performance was hammy

But if you think about it, he pretty much nailed the cranky forgot his coffee this morning New Yorker that happens to be a loser detective (given that he's lived in Brooklyn and goes around Manhattan for the last 8 to 10 years now he probably understands how people living there tend to be as far as world weary goes). So in that respect it is another great performance from him, he even sauced it up a bit with his cartoony side just to give Monday an edge we always need in a character like this.
