Do they understand the consequences they caused?

It is very, very likely that the N. Korean people who were deceived in this film were sent to internment camps along with their family, seeing as that is common in that hell hole. If the DPRK finds out this film exists, those poor people are *beep* I can't believe Brugger would use innocents as such pawns for such minor and novel gains. Shame.

I would imagine the same thing can happen whenever any documentary is made about North Korea. There is a National Geographic one called "Inside North Korea" where Lisa Ling asks a family in North Korea if their leader can do anything wrong. The Interrupter pretends he doesn't understand, because they could all be killed for taking a moment to ponder such a question. Why the hell did she ask that? And her documentary gets praise, while this one gets attacked. Maybe National Geographic has more facts, but this documentary is very eye opening in how North Korean representatives communicate with outsiders and the way they use them, while putting on a show with their beautiful singing little girls at every possible moment.
And I was pretty impressed by Jacob's defiance in the face of this. The director may have gone a long with more than he should have, but Jacob was often the voice of reason, and it was amazing to watch him call them psycho and creepy and evil, and them have no idea due to their own willful ignorance.

Willful ignorance may not be an apt choice of words. They don't understand his criticisms because the are not apable of it. It's like saying a mentally challenged guy is willfully ignorant. People work within their confines, wether tangible or not.

You're saying that they're stupid, but I'm sure that's not true. The most profound thing that comes from being dependent upon someone else is that you come to know them extremely well, because your life and everything depends upon it. Therefore I'm sure the North Koreans understand the consequences of this movie more than the movie makers. In the end, each side knows exactly what the other side wants, and tries to turn the situation to their advantage. On the surface, both sides must put on a friendly face. I'm glad that I watched the movie but I wish it never existed.

What the North Koreans were doing went right over most peoples heads. The North Koreans were the ones using these "filmakers." See the other post on this board on the subject.

They were played, and they played right into the hands of the North Koreans. They were leading this band of fools into doing their bidding. Useful idiots.

Using goes both ways. North Koreans in this film realize full well that they are also being filmed and that these film makers are going to use their material to shed critical light towards North Korea. Like westeners, North Koreans are also very mindful of what they say and do, these are not stupid morons incapable of their own thought. North Koreans might not know Danish, but they still know what is being said about them. Nobody is stupid everyone puts on a face and everyone plays a game.

To get any kind of film (without being super spy or something) out of North-Korea you need to play by their rules, so imo atm this is the only way to make films out of there and on other hand it would be stupid if it was only anti-NK propaganda too. Propaganda has no use and is only lies. West loves it's propaganda too y'know, especially movies.
