Lancaster, Learn how to say it

Lancaster...
A phonetic guide.

Lang Caster... this is how burt's last name is pronounced. This is how the county in California, as well as Nebraska are pronounced...

lanc uh ster - that is how the county in southeast PA with the high Amish population is pronounced.

When you pronounce it wrong it is like a beacon telling anyone from there that you are an auslander, not from here...

Everyone in this movie saying it wrong was dragging me out of the movie over and over.

Maybe you guys are pronouncing it wrong?

reply

It' can't be mispronounced by everyone living there. Plus the OP is right - if you're going to make a movie about a place you could at least learn how to pronounce the name of that place.

reply

I live near Lancaster PA, and locals pronounce it both ways. Lang Caster is the more common pronunciation. You're just being a crybaby. Grow up.

reply

The locals do not say it both ways. You obviously don't live very close.

We have a Lancaster in Oregon and we pronounce it Lan ca s ter, hard n, no g or c. So, the way you are saying it sounds funny to me.

reply

The proper emphasis is on the first syllable of Lancaster, PA (LANC as ter). Out-of-towners usually put the emphasis on the middle syllable instead (Lan CAS ter).

I am a Lancaster, PA native, so y'all can't argue. I speak the truth on this.

reply

I live near Lancaster in the UK , where y'all copied the name from .

The OP is completely wrong,
Theres no G!

Especially in Burt Lancaster's pronunciation.
