why did Angela slept with Ben Baker ?

i failed to understand , why did angela slept with Ben? Was there a motive behind? does she wanted the house?

reply

It was difficult to determine her motives throughout the movie. Since we only knew Ben's dad through a few brief moments, we have no idea what he was thinking either. But is sounded like he was a lonely old man which loved having sex with Angela as written in his will.

I do find it interesting she was not remembered in the will aside from being the Executor. Which could possibly mean she was nothing more than a sexual companion.

Up until she questioned why he didn't leave her anything, she appeared a pure and naive. Which at that point turned the tides for me thinking she was feeling entitled.

But to answer your question, I do not believe she did it to get the house. I believe both Ben and Angela shared a moment brought out possibly from grieving and/or reminiscence. I can't say for certain but her apparent like for Steve Dallas came a bit quick, shortly after putting her husband in the ground. Follow that up with sex with Ben brings a bit into question, such as being an opportunist.

Angela was an 'open book', no pretense, no pretend. A Mother Earth type. She wanted to help anyone to find their own way in the twisted, warped world we all inhabit now. She was generous and unfailing in her own philosophy of "we need to love one another right now, right now, right now." To quote The Youngbloods. www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4fWN6VvgKQ. Try to get together and try to love one another right now.

reply

Angela is a fake. She tries her best to believe her own crap but ultimately, it's nonsense. She does nothing, has nothing and basically goes through life getting what she wants because of her looks. I tend to agree with those who accuse the film of being misogynistic. What is her job, what does she do, who is she, take away her beauty and what's left

The moral of the story?............be good looking cos it really makes life much easier (also suggested by the newsroom stuff)

This is one of the brilliant things writers do when they "almost but not-quite" define a character: they give room for each watcher/reader to impose their own world view onto the character. Hence, one poster sees her as a genuine and loving earth-mother type, and another sees her as a fake and superficial. Both would likely swear they are right and think the other is fatally flawed in the way they look at the world. Fascinating.

It's also interesting to note the comparison between the use of grammar and the level of cynicism; I start to wonder about education and the capacity for empathy. That's just a little mind-fluff, though. I can't really come to any firm conclusions, but it's fun to see how often it comes up.

Movies are IQ tests. The IMDB boards are each person's opportunity to broadcast their score.

reply

So because of the poster's grammar his/her opinion is possibly flawed? Thank you for posting the dumbest post in this thread. 

He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man.

I thought the film pretty much explained itself after it happened but I guess you didn't catch on.

reply

That was helpful. Do you feel better chiming in, yet saying nothing?

reply

Yes the movie was pretty helpful in explaining the characters actions imo, hence why I said what I said. Chill.

reply

Clearly the OP had some trouble, so you saying what you said was in no way helpful.

Take your own advice. (You can have the last word. You probably need it more)

reply

Like Cloe in The Big Chill, she is one of those rare people who live in the present. She would ignore your slut shaming question as irrelevant and continue with her life.

It was a "welcome back to the world, Ben" celebration. Not romantic, just about comfort and wanting to show him she cared.

I feel that they just had a moment and bonded.

What I hated about the movie is that Owen Wilson's character just assumed she was "his" b/c he was the cool one and was upset that Zach's character (been a while since I saw it) had the gull to sleep with the one he wanted.

reply

"What I hated about the movie" Owen's character being as confused, jealous, presumptuous, and selfish as a real person would be was the sort of thing I loved about this movie.

Or because he felt there was a bond forming there between them both, and then finds out shes dating his best friend...

Keep in mind they had been talking a lot, including about having feelings for each other, kissed, and he was beginning to change bad habits.

She wasn't leading him on at all I don't think, but I do think its pretty fair to respond negatively to that kind of situation, and has nothing to do with thinking you're better than the other guy. It has everything to do with believing there was something more there when the other person doesn't feel the same.

They weren't dating though. It was just a one time "welcome back to Earth" sort of thing.

I got the vibe that Owen just seemed that he had dibs on the beautiful woman b/c he was the more attractive of the two (Owen and Zach).

reply

He was told they were dating though. That needed to be cleared up later.

And just because you feel it's okay to sleep around with people's friends until you're in a committed monogamous relationship doesn't mean everyone else does.

Personally, it wouldn't worry me, but I can understand how it might for someone else. And it seems that degree of empathy is where you and I differ.

reply

It's been a while since I saw the film, but who told him they were dating?

Again, I just got the feeling that Owen thought he had dibs on her b/c he didn't think Zach was good looking enough to be any competition. He just assumed Zach would back off and fall in line. Which annoyed me.

As for her bonding with Owen, she obviously bonded with Zach's character as well otherwise they wouldn't have slept together.

Zachs sister. When he got back into town and the shop had the overhaul.

Cool. Thanks.

I didn't ask anything else. I just restated my opinion b/c I don't agree with you. Actually, I don't even think we're having the same argument.

And just because you feel it's okay to sleep around with people's friends...

I never said or implied that. I was saying my interpretation on what I thought happened in the film. So please stop with the armchair psychology. You are bad at it.
