Back when it had an 8.8, it had over 2000 votes, so I thought the score might be legit. Usually once a movie gets in the thousands, its score doesn't vary much. It's kinda hard to rally up multiple thousands of people to try and run the score up, especially with a relatively small release. I would expect a couple hundred padding votes, but not thousands.
I still thought this was high, and so I checked the ratings distribution and found some interesting stuff.
2000 females had voted, whereas only 500 males voted. Since when do women watch/vote more than men?! Every movie on the top 250 has an overwhelming majority of male votes; hell, I even tried to find chick-friendly stuff, like Amelie, and still like 5:1 ratio in favor of male voters.
ESPECIALLY a movie about LARPing!
Even more interesting, the female average was 9.8 and the male average was 7.1, along with an IMDb staff vote of 1/10.
I've been keeping tabs on the score as it's dropped, and it looks like there have only been 1 or 2 new female votes since then, and several hundred male votes which have been bringing the score down to what it should be. I would expect it to fall even further.
So I have no clue what all of this means, but it's definitely fishy.
That is some pretty interesting analysis. IMDB has a weighted average rating. how does it affect the rating of a movie?
shareMovies like this one won't get a representative rating because they very clearly have audiences that will love them, hate them and won't get them wich will result in an average rating between 5 and 7 that can't really tell you if you will like the movie.
I usualy look at the distribution of the votes too, because movies that collect votes in the extremes (like 30% 1s and 30% 10s) will land at an average of 5-6 but are very often worth a look.
I generally liked the movie. It achieved what it set out to do: Being 90 min of lighthearted honest deep immersion subculture fun.
It's at 7.1 right now. I gave it a 4.

Same here, 3, and I like the premise and love the actors. This movie just flat out missed on almost all cylinders. Except for some sparse self aware humor at the LARP crowd expense there is nothing here.
shareOne of the biggest SHAMS I´ve ever seen on IMDB. The "wonderful score" has almost dropped two points in THREE DAYS, coincidentally, just around the time the movie was "leaked" on p2p networks and people actually started seeing this garbage.
I really don´t understand how IMDB lets this kind of bs happen. If they aren´t in it, they should be pressing charges against the people behind it, that is, if IMDB is in any way interested in preserving the remains of its reputation, of course.

IMDB doesn't "let" it happen, they encourage the shilling by charging for it with IMDB pro. the high reviews are probably all from the marketing company for the film

people usually give the scores 10 cause they enjoyed watching the film a lot
they may have got caught up in what they thought was a awesome film but may change there minds after a 2nd viewing
the film wasnt perfect but alesisqs if u thought the film was a 1 how are u any different from the people who gave it a 10 ????? no way was this film a 1
Because in full honesty I thought it was a 1. I only got thru it because I was bored out of my mind and like the actors. But...I really wanted it to end as soon as possible and delete it. It will stay with me as one of the worst films with actors I like for a long time.
I also said that I rated it a 3... but... for me...it's really a 1, I was being generous. I WISH it had some redeeming qualities but I can't find any.
Script....awful.
Directing...amateurish...void of any type of cinematic feel to it.
Monster...uggg... straight out of the 1970's. Reminded me of a Godzilla type monster on a smaller scale.
Acting...Better than the movie itself. I fell bad these guys put in decent performances for this crappy movie.

A subjective 10 is not declaring a movie a "perfect film". An average 10 imdb rating is.
There is no logical reason why users should cast objective votes, and there is no logical reason why people should give out more 5's than 1's or 10's.

5.8 now. I have it a 5. I could understand a 4 though. I can see where the movie had promise, but the end product seemed rushed. Definitely some wasted potential. Especially when you have zahn and dinklage. Most of the movie I found myself wondering why dinklage ever agreed to do it.
Seeing summer glau definitely helped, but the whole metal music angle really sunk it for me. And that's being a huge metal fan.
