My childhood strung up by a noose by Disney.

I grew up idolizing that freaking movie. I lived my elementary school years with a magnifying glass, binoculars and a composition notebook.

Now...that childhood love is carried on by THIS?!

Yes, this is what happens when children don't read anymore. When a "story" (and I use this term very loosely) is made into slop like this, it dumbs children down, not makes them want to read the book. I was a kid when the BOOK came out, and I read the book much like you watched the movie- with a composition notebook and pencil constantly in my hand- but even the first movie didn't do the book justice. So, if you haven't already, and I hope you have, go back and read the book. It's great. Trust me.

I read the book as a kid and I loved it I also loved the movie. I didnt even know this was being made. If its done by disney then I have little hope as their live action non animated stuff lately has been junk. Hanna MOntanna, Wizards of Waverly place and more junk like that. This just seems like a cash grab.

I was browsing On Demand and saw "Hey! They redid Harriet the Spy!"

2 seconds later "hold on...she blogs??"

4 seconds later "wait that's alli from degrassi!...and claire!"

5 minutes later I turned it off. Total crap! While I do appreciate that they are bringing back all my childhood favorites, I don't appreciate the "update" to "today's standards". If Ramona Quimby has a Twitter in the upcoming movie I'm going to start cracking skulls.

I adored this book as a kid. Every time a movie is made based on a book, the number one thing that causes the movie to fail is casting. It happened here in spades. The first movie about Harriet was very close to what it should have been. The only thing wrong was the casting of Rosie O'Donnal as Ole Golly. At the time, however, she was a very big part of NICK & they gave her the part in their first foray into film. It was OK.
Now THIS movie....OMG!!
WHO cast this?? Were they kidding?? Was this a dare? Would Harry Potter be the success it is if the casting for that franchise was as bad as this movie?? I am not so concerned about Jennifer Stone, but the rest of the cast isn't even remotely close to the book. The number one issue--Golly. She sure isn't OLE is she?? She is supposed to be a very stern woman, likely in her 40's, who wears a bun & a tweed suit. HOW did she turn into the Prom Queen?? Are we sure Alex Russo didn't cast a spell on her? I am sure some troll will call me racist, but when did Jane become Hindi? The Jane I grew up reading was actually from a loud, possibly lower income family & she was strawberry blonde with freckles. Sport had dark hair & looked tired all the time. Where was the boy with the purple socks?
Let's give in to the updated version with the blogging for a second. Why use the word "fink", which was based on the time the original book was written--back in 1964? If you updated it to blogging, update the language.
I really hate when someone ruins a good book memory. Don't you?
