Phelous review

Funny, but mostly says what everyone here is saying.

We are eagles of one nest, The nest is in our soul

Watching that review made me relive the anguish of the 80's Turtles characters being degenerated in that movie. But your right, what he said on that review was accurate to what was said on this board.

That was painfully bad. And I have to disagree with you, I didn't find it funny. I found his whiny, over-reacted cynical views on this bordering on annoying as it was un-informed.

Also, if one is going to cover a crossover review, you should at least do your research on both versions, even if slightly to know going in what to expect, which clearly he did not seeing how he kept referring to the 2003 Shredder as "Shred-Krang", not knowing anything about Hun or Karai, etc.

Look, I'm not about to go all out with my own retrospective review, cause... everyone's has done that already.

I personally enjoyed the movie, it has it's flaws, but overall was a great way to close the book on the TMNT series as a whole at the time.

I just didn't like Phelous' review, and call into question his viewpoints when he didn't do his research and just went for the easy "This sucks" rant. I want my 20 minutes back.

I don't see how any research would have changed his mind. The biggest reason he thought it sucked was because it failed to deliver on it's basic premise (that and the fact that they treated their own plot holes like they weren't silly). If one team in a crossover is a written as a parody instead of what they were actually like, it's not a very good crossover. Knowing more about Utrom Shredder or Karai really wouldn't have changed that.

Also he makes up goofy names for characters in his reviews all the time. He called old Donatello "Blatant Exposition-atello" too.

I'm not saying knowing more about 2003 would "change his mind". But more on the level of reviewing something, knowing more about the topic you're talking about.

Maybe it's just my nitpick about his review, as I tend to like my reviews/retrospectives with at least some level of understanding of the program (in this case, knowing at least a few things about the 2003 series so he wouldn't be so lost seeing how most of the film happen to take place IN the 2003 universe).

It'd just be like if we had a vise-versa scenario of someone who grew up with the 2003 series, just going full out against the 1987 series without having watched a single episode.

But whatever. If any of you guys found what he said funny or matching your own thoughts, that's fine. I however just found his review incredibly annoying.

reply

Well this is only a thought but maybe he was matching the 2003 Turtles cynicism in the movie toward the 87 Turtles to even out the playing field. It's like that vise-versa scenario you were talking about only it's already in the movie. But then again I know how you feel, I find the Nostalgia Critic annoying when it comes to reviews aswell.
