Based on a real incident?

I don 't think so. I can't turn up a single piece of research supporting this happened in real life. Can anyone?

Did it state somewhere that it was based on a true story? Answering you're own question is never really a good idea either, but it gave me a good laugh.

Actually, it does state that it was based on a true story. At the beginning, did you actually watch it? It was in CAPITALS.

reply

Hmmmm, I just checked and you & I obviously have seen different versions, I don't leave myself open for morons to rip apart my statements. It does have the word "Anja Plaschg" right before the start of the movie, and that is a name of an Austrian artist born April 5th 1990, she did the music. So next time COME CORRECT IN CAPITALS SUCKA!. Here's where I watched it:

From a description of this movie on another site: "Their War game is turned into a reality, where they will be forced to fight for their survival. The film is based on real events that took place in 1992."

reply

Yea, on another site? Said by who? Exactly...........Honestly I'm actually interested now,

reply

Yep, there it is, People always get all interested when a fu**ed wild plot is something that actually happened. If you traced it back to the source they would be like oh well it was loosely based on some information & interviews that involved a run in with a deer hunter and some paint ball people,ha

Yea, probablt exaggerated, but I'd still be interested ti know what the 'true events' were.

It is there in caps. Using your link it clearly states at 3:13 in caps "this story is inspired by true events occurred on June 5th 1992"

Just sayin, but to the original poster I've been breakin my neck tryin to find the actual story but no luck. Nine times out of ten it's one of those stories where a group of people went into the woods and someone got really hurt or died. It was then fantasized by adding some elaborate plot involving some local undesirables, a sole survivor and a "inspired by" tag.

If you happen to find it update the thread I'd like to know the true story.

Aspect ratio cut it off, funny *beep*

It clearly states it's based on true events at the start and at the end.
True or not is not the issue here....what it is that you were not only wrong in stating the film never says this, but you were rude in doing so and not man enough to say sorry after you were shown to be wrong.

You're all that's wrong with IMDB message boards you arrogant cretin.

Yes, with the diagonals in the upper case "N"s sloping the wrong way, at least on the copy I'm watching :)

Edit: Oh, I now see they do that for the "N"s in the cast/crew names in the opening titles too. Artistic effect, I guess.

Actually, the question was "can anyone?"

An Italian review mentions Yugoslavia. This is a quote from the review (translated).

Taking into account the ultimate goal, and his co-screenwriters Alemà, and Meggiolaro persica, are reduced to mere function breaks interim study of psychology, individual or group, to propose some essential truth about the real event in the former Yugoslavia in 1992 which were inspired: not, of course, to know what really happened and why, but the film, lost in the frantic adventures of the protagonists, not even question what really born of the horror of the carnage.

Not only did it was mentioned in the credits at the beginning that it was based on events that happened in 1992 but it also appeared at the very end of the end credits were it says that since they're no survivors it is how the writers supposed it may have happen. So "based on" really means "inspired by". But if it was in ex Yugoslavia you can easily think it may have happen. And it could actually have been worse.

reply

*SPOILER*

Not sure I believe that this really happened. It says inspired by, and like you said, since there are no survivors, how can they tell how it went down?

That aside, I thought the film was bloody excellent. Kept me on the edge of my seat. Feel sorry for whoever it really happened to, if it did. The idea of being stuck somewhere like that scares the poop outta me - lol

reply

I watched it last night and it definitely had the `based on true events' line there.

reply

From what I have looked up online (google/wikipedia) there is nothing that supports that any of this is true. It did say that it was based on true events... but one thing kind of bugs me..... if all of that happened (a) why did they all die in the movie? surely there would need to be a survivor to tell this story??
(b) where is the evidence that some horrible mass murders took place?? there would have been media articles and all sorts about it.
(c) it just states "true events" but what country? the "baddies" had a russian/ukraine accent.... so was it in europe?

just dont think it is actually based on true events.

reply

We actually don't see the last one die. We just hear the click of the land mine. Maybe she "MacGyvered" herself off the land mine.

This sentence has nothing to do with what I just have written above.

reply

Could've been a dud as well.
