Cynic sad mammals don't like comedy films.

This film was actually really good! It didn't have boobs jumping in our faces and it was more "SFW" than most 80' comedy films I watched as a kid. Good to watch with all family without worrying about random inexplicable sex scenes. In my opinion the female character wasn't hypersexualized, the fat protagonist wasn't a dumb useless animal, the antagonist were bad dudes but not stupid psychopats. Good comedy, good action, good characters. Had to give it a 10 because there are unreasonable cynical people that don't understand comedy anymore.
People that give 1/10 to this are definitely a bunch of sad mammals.

Each to his/her own but I can't see how in any universe that could ever be considered a 10/10.

Yes it was tame, not excessively violent or sex filled etc etc etc and I appreciate that isn't necessary. However I think the issue here it was heavily recycled, unoriginal, the same Kevin James "Humour" that was barely funny the first dozen times.

We've just seen this all before, the whole thing was just played too safe and I understand why it didn't appeal to many. On the plus side at least it was better than his Zookeeper effort! Yikes!

I think Hollywood has lost its way when it comes to Comedy. They tend to fall under one of two categories.

1) THIS, the generic paint by numbers film which isn't terrible but hardly entertains the masses

2) The movie labelled a comedy when it's really a drama with the occasional joke thrown in to keep people awake

"Be the change you wish to see in the world"

Oh, I get what you're saying. I don't really think this is a 10 movie I only said I gave this a 10 because people give this a 1 just "because". To me this is PERHAPS a 6. And you're right Hollywood comedy aren't funny at all.

Wouldn't that lend credence to people giving unfunny movies a 1 because you are rating movies like this a 10?

reply

Theres a third kind

3) Hyper vulgarity movie with over the top sex and excrement jokes with alcohol and drug references throughout. Shock Value x10 but promoted as "irreverent fun for the family" when its not at all for a family to watch.

I liked that I could watch this movie with my family, still be entertained, yet not feel awkward or embarrassed when the scene arrives in most comedies involving sex or excrement. This film didnt fall into that typical trope and it was refreshing.

I want to own this movie on Bluray, thats how much I enjoyed it! I would write that this movie and "Here comes the Boom" are the two best Kevin James movies.

I would rate this movie a 10 as well, but really mean it and not just to raise its score.

I appreciate that Kevin James wasnt the tired old "useless but lovable chubby protagonist". And every supporting actor seemed multidimensional to me. I liked the pacing of the film, a few jokes got bell laughs from me and comedies these days rarely do that! Some jokes fell flat (mainly from the book publishing girl at starbucks) but overall the comedy was good and the adventure of the film was great!

"El Fantasma" you are The Ghost!
