Surprised

I'll be completely honest, I did not have high hopes for this movie. But, yea it's actually pretty good. A far cry from Paul blart mall cop and zookeeper. And much better then the last time Netflix made an original movie with a happy Madison actor. There was actual acting and good jokes in this, without resorting to toilet humor and idiotic accents. Not a great movie, but definitely a step in the right direction

Better than "Keeping Up with the Joneses".

It was kind of cute, but I only laughed once. All the blood splatters seemed out of place with the light tone of the rest of the film.

None of you people get it. People take movies and Hollywood way too seriously. This was a fun, exciting, entertaining, well made potboiler. I absolutely loved it! There's nothing wrong with forgettable movies that are nothing more than pure entertainment.

It was a popcorn movie. I've already forgotten most of it, but I had a great time watching it. And I thought Kevin James rocked! He was totally convincing as the milktoast AND the badass.

No lectures are necessary, lol. The fact that I enjoy the Mall Cop movies shows I don't take these things seriously. My opinion is True Memoirs was cute, not memorable, and that's about it. You got more out of it. That's it.

reply

I thought it was really charming.

This reminded me of the 1980's fish out of water comedies like Pure Luck and The Inlaws. It was a little inconsistent in tone, funny then pretty violent at different times.

Thor 2-Attack of the Clones-The 5th Element the trifecta of bad movies.

reply

The fact that everybody wants to kill Kevin James, and that he is expected to kill everybody, doesn't seem very “light tone” to me.

reply

Actually that was one of the more absurd things about the movie. Which was the point, to be totally absurd.

reply

Yes, it's absurd, but it's also cruel compared to his other movies. One doesn't cancel the other.

reply

Agreed. It wasn't a 10/10 blockbuster, but this was a decently funny movie. Some funny scenes, decent dialog, and Kevin James did a good job. the lead girl was a little off at the beginning with the way she talked, but she grew on me.

reply

I honestly just watched it because I like Kevin James and loved him as Doug Hefernan. I expected it to be bad, and was pleasantly surprised. I gave it 3/5 on Netflix

reply

I felt entertained. I thought it could have been better, but it had enough good in it for me to watch it straight through.

reply

I completely agree. I was also surprised by the quality of the dialogue (and that there's a fair bit of actual action in it). Netflix has a way of feeling very disjointed, like you said keeping up with the joneses is a very good example of this, but this movie is good and I believe the actors/actresses in it.
