127 hours and he didnt need to take a dump?

Did i miss something, he spent 127 hours and didnt need to take a dump. Sure one could say he didnt eat anything apart from 2-3 snacks he had brought with him but he probably ate something in the morning and before the day he went to the canyon.

And its a natural body process. Even if you have hardly eaten you will still produce enough to have need to take a dump. And we are talking here 4-5 days here. Even if you hardly eat you dont go that long without a need to take a dump.

I'm sure he did. But including something like that would probably detract from the overall tone of the movie.

Actually, when the body hits extreme physical stress, it often holds off on such processes. Ask anyone who has had a surgery. In many cases one of the clues that the patient is recovering is when they finally start pooping again. Combine that with the lack of food intake and it is reasonable to believe that it could happen this way. He does mention in the movie that he didn't #2.

I think the human body behaves in strange ways when it realises it's under extreme stress. I've never understood how survivors after earthquakes are discovered alive sometimes 10 days later and have managed to just catch a few drips of water on their tongue. Or there have been several cases of lone sailors who have gone for weeks, eating raw fish and not much else. Most of us never know what our bodies and our minds are truly capable of, as we're, thank goodness, never put in a situation like Ralston's. I simply cannot believe that I could sever my own limb, but who knows? When the situation is dire? Then what? I can't imagine eating live wichety grubs if lost in the Australian outback, but again, who knows when push comes to shove and one is starving hungry? Those grubs might taste like the best shrimp you've ever had.

In the movie they didn't portray it. it was one of the things cut out. if you go to the Wikipedia page though it lists the things that weren't included or changed from the book/experience for the movie here's the link.

People who can't move and must stay in bed after surgery may not feel the need to go to the toilets (even if they could walk to it). It's not uncommon for people in hospital not to do it for one week, even if they have 3 meals a day. It's due to the fact that there's no normal bowel movement and to psychological issues about having to do it while remaining in their beds. Yet the hospital staff will try to accelerate the process after 3 / 4 days in order to avoid complications.

But even outside an hospital environment, constipation can last up to 1 week or more (read Sade's books for more information...;) )

I'm pretty sure he stated in the movie that it wasn't happening (thus the insects were out of luck). How close that was to real life? I'll have to check the link elsewhere in this thread.

I once went on vacation to New Orleans for New Year's and did not realize until I got home that I did not crap for five days. And I didn't even change my eating habits. It just worked out that way.

I spent five days in Germany with hardly a motion. Once I got home I had to visit the hospital to get a fleet enema. Wasn't a good experience...
