Michael Jackson? in the memorial tribute? Why?

Michael Jackson had NO reason to be recognized in the memorial tribute. He did NOT belong there. Any opinions?

He was in The Wiz...

But yeah.

They had him but no Farrah?!?

reply

Yeah WTF no Farrah but Micheal? He is the greatest entertainer of my generation but WHY? Corey Haim just missed being mentioned by a few days.

reply

Oh, I know. I made a comment on another board giving my opinion about the children, and they of course all accused me of "believing the lies." I mean, come on.. it's ridiculous. Just because he was a good entertainer, it made all the sick things he did OK? I don't think so. He was disgusting.

Along with Ronald Reagan, his death also overshadowed the passing of Farrah Fawcett, who was actually a good person. It's sad, really.

He didn't ruine any kid's lives! They all lied along with their greedy parents trying to make a dollar out of 15 cents! But it didn't work this time... they all walked away with nothing! I didn't hear any of them screaming about injustice because they knew that they were just a bunch of pathetic liars!

Hey, Goofballs. This post was NOT about child molestation, but whether of not he deserved a place among REAL film actors, writer, producers, and technicians. He...............DID NOT BELONG!

I think he was included because of his massive impact on the entertainment industry and his innovations in music video and dance. I mean his influence on the industry was so huge it really couldn't really be denied. His influence went beyond just the recording industry and touched all walks of the entertainment world. And if you look at some of his videos, they were very cinematic, with nods to old Hollywood musicals, and he worked with a number of well-known film directors on his music videos, or as he called them "short films". And the old Hollywood guard sang his praises--Fred Astaire, Frank Sinatra, Gregory Peck and of course Elizabeth Taylor to name a few.

Also, I have a feeling no one would be making as much of a fuss that he was included if Farrah Fawcett had been included as well. The Academy really screwed up in not including her during the memoriam segment, and I can understand why people are upset, but I think it's unfair to dog Michael Jackson for it. Also, does anyone know if John Lennon and Elvis were included in the Academy memoriam when they died?

Michael Jackson was a LEGEND. He DID belong in the tribute. Did you follow the beginning words BEFORE the tribute. The tribute pays homage to those we have lost in the entertainment business. Michael Jackson played the scarecrow in "The Wiz" many years ago.

reply

personally, i don't think he belonged. but he did contribute to movies, such as the song Ben and he was in the wiz. but, still he didn't belong there.

reply

Well, that was your opinion. Apparently the academy saw the contribution he made and included him in the tribute. Jackson was too huge a name NOT to be part of their farewell.

reply

He belonged in the tribute portion of the Oscars as much as Farrah should be highlighted during the Grammys.

That's a really ignorant thing to say. Being PC has nothing to do with Michael Jackson being included in the tribute. His impact on entertainment was too big to ignore. And what do the BET awards have to do with anything? How many black people won Oscars on Sunday, maybe one or two? Until recently you rarely saw a black person winning anything at the Academy Awards. You don't what the hell you're talking about.

Last time I looked, "Michael Jackson's This is It" had earned $260 million worldwide. I'd say he was a motion picture phenom!

reply

wouldn't have earned it if hadn't died. would it have even been released?

eh.

reply

Yep smellovision, BET has nothing to do with MJ. MJ was loved by so many whites, including myself. I think we were the main ones buying Thriller because so many people at my local record store back in 1982 was crammed with white people buyinf Thriller.

Is anyone else besides me tired of whiny Fawcett fans? You guys have been bitching ALL damn year and frankly, it's damn annoying. I get it, it's MJ's fault he died the same day as Farrah(come on, anyone with a brain knows that MJ was a much BIGGER star than Farrah, only known for spending one year on Charlie's Angels and for being pretty. If she wasn't blonde, she wouldn't have been half as famous), and it's also MJ's fault that he was included in the tribute. You see, he's plotting against Farrah beyond the grave.
