Dragon Age Cast Wishlist

Ok. So. Dragon Age will probably be never made into a movie. The story was told, and Bioware told it very well. An adaptation would be stupid. But if IF it did happen, what would be your dream cast?

In this template (Let's start with Origins):

Malcolm Cousland (Lead Actor/Sacred Ashes Trailer): Ethan Hawke
Alistair: Nick Zano (College)
Morrigan: Megan Fox
Leliana: Deborah Ann Woll (True Blood)
Sten: Kevin Grevioux (Underworld)
Wynn: Helen Mirren
Arl Eamon: Bernard Hill
Duncan: Daniel Day Lewis
Teyrn Loghaine: Liam Neeson
Queen Anora: Kristen Bell

Other cast (can add more if desired):

The two I found very hard to find an actor for were Malcolm and Loghaine. For Malcolm, I picked Ethan Hawke because he seems like an actor who hasn't been in an epic spear and sword movie (that I know of). I couldn't settle with Russell Crowe. :P Trim his hair, add make up for a face tattoo and scars. Liam Neeson is well spoken and can pull off an arrogant Loghaine who's not necessarily evil, but definitely has mixed point of views and shown as a political antagonist.

Malcolm Cousland (Lead Actor/Sacred Ashes Trailer): Ethan Hawke

Why I'd never want to see a Dragon Age movie. The Warden would be a cookie cutter human noble. Blegh :p

reply

Heheh. What about first-person-POV for the Warden then?

(And: Does every old woman have to be played by Helen Mirren nowadays?)

reply

(And: Does every old woman have to be played by Helen Mirren nowadays?)

I'm afraid so. It was a United Nations Resolution 3 years ago.

In the kingdom of the blind, you're the village idiot.

reply

I could give her Flemeth's part and have Wyrnn played by Judy Densch.. Eh?

"As the humans say, the humans you love more than your own kind, BACK YOUR *beep* DOWN!"

reply

I was afraid someone would bring up number two on the list.

reply

We need a main character, and to keep the story in one piece we can't have Alistair leading. Sorry ladies. If this were to be made in a movie, they would undoubtedly use a Cousland because of the dramatic beginning (deaths of his parents and personal vendetta with Arl Howe).

And why fret away from Malcolm? So if you had the choice, who would be your Malcolm? Ethan Hawke was an opinion and wasn't my only choice. I could see Josh Lucas, Bradley Cooper, etc etc as a lead actor. Hell, let's throw in Vinnie Chase too! (joke).

reply

Your presuming that the Cousland is male...

I think it would be interesting to see a female Cousland, it certainly seems that we have some of the more entertaining dialogue from what I have seen...

reply

What I'm going by is what Bioware already settled with as a cinematic lead warden. A human male. Malcolm.

reply

Aah, thank you for the clarification.

reply

Well, it doesn't need to be the very story of the game we all love... after all, Thedas is quite big...

AFAIC, I'd go with a different story, with different characters, set at the same time as DA:O... So, there would be no danger of "corrupting" anybody's vision of the DA:O caharacters.

Let's face it, we all know how the DA:O story unfolds and how it ends. That's no movie fodder. I don't see any point in retelling it again. And I'm only at my second playthrough...

reply

Technically, wouldn't the origin story they use be human male MAGE? In the Andraste's Ashes trailer he used ... some sort of power. It's been a while since I've seen it. Also, the Hawke default in the DA:2 trailer is also a mage. I think they like to show their magic off.

In which case! We should be casting a rough and tumble, mystical type. Who fits that bill?

MATTHEW GOODE! (Watchmen, Single Man, Lookout...)
Tom Hardy? (Inception, Star Trek Nemisis, Rock N Rolla...)

they come to mind first because I love them and I think they would do a great job. I don't know if they scream PERFECT to me, but I'm thinking on the fly here.

reply

The Cousland origin is not the only one that's "dramatic". Or... did you forget about Vaughn and his "little party"?

reply

The only really dramatic thing about the human noble origin is how much worse it is than any other origin.

Short, small, mostly a boring dungeon crawl, you are noble but have zero money, you get the stupid dog earlier and miss the quest, all compensated by having a little bit better shield and sword ... ?

Second weakest is City Elf, but that one at least is truely emotionally intense, and much longer than noble human.

Apperently you wouldnt be a too bad choice for a casting agent.

At least visuals ... I dont know most of these guys, but the visual match well.

Daniel Day Lewis is definitely too old though.

And Leliana ... well I would prefer someone more attractive.

reply

Thanks. Someone finally staying on topic.

Guys. The topic was if an Origins movie was made, who would be your lead casts? Like companion/villian wise. We went from criticizing the lead, to obvious choices for elderly women, to rants about what origin story should be used.

Just use your own origin (dalish elf, male dwarf whatever) and your companions and tell us who your star cast would be. This is supposed to be creative and fun.

Let's get back on track.

"As the humans say, the humans you love more than your own kind, BACK YOUR *beep* DOWN!"

Bear with me here... I've been over on the very busy Transformers 3 board, what with all the upheaval of Megan Fox quitting (getting fired). Some of the current rumors is that Sam's new love interest will be played by Katie Cassidy. I had no idea who she was, but looked her up. I think she'd be great as Carly in Transformers, but to get to the point (FINALLY), I think she'd also be a great Leliana.

Here are a couple of pictures:

So, what do you think...?

reply

I'm surprised Shia LaBeouf has been completely quiet about this whole thing. I assumed Megan and him were "BFFs". I guess business is business.

Katie Cassidy. I remember her from Click and Taken. Definitely hot, would definitely look hot with fire blonde or amber dyed hair. Agree? She could make a good seductive red-headed bard.

reply

Interesting, back then I thought Debora Woll isnt attractive enough.

Oh yeah. My movie would ROCK

The only one familiar in that whole musical cast is Chris Martin. And that's saying something, lol.

Convergecultist3, if I may comment, Prince may have been the prince of the 80's, but Micheal Jackson was the King. I can't think of any song that came out in the 80's that was more popular than Thriller (1983). Not that I'm much of a fan of Jackson, I was just sayin'.

On topic, I'm so bad with remembering names of famous people so my list will be fairly short.

Warden: Uma Thurman. (Why does the warden HAVE to be a guy? Plus she was so kick-ass in Kill Bill. With some makeup and movie magic, she could be made to look younger.)
Alistair: Orlando Bloom (Ah yeeah)
Wynne: Julie Andrews.
Arl Eamon: Micheal Gambon
Loghain: Jason Isaccs

Edit: Thought of more.

Morrigan: Helena Bonham Carter.
Rendon Howe: Alan Rickman

reply

Why does the Warden have to be a guy? Because, as Jennabe pointed out, the Warden would most likely be a male human noble. He'd probably be white, young, clean shaven, and a brunet too. Unfortunately, it's the norm in such things.

reply

David Gaider's cast list:

For me, Alistair is best represented by a young British actor like Simon Woods or Hugh Dancy.

For Morrigan, Kate Beckinsale might work (also British) but I also like Emily Blunt or even Ellen Page (though she's a bit young... mind you, it's not as if movies never take liberty with character ages).

For Leliana, Milla Jovovich is nice. Bryce Dallas Howard or perhaps Evan Rachel Wood could also work.

For Zevran... Antonio Banderas? Seriously? I've seen people suggest him, but this is clearly based on voice. Physically the man is just too old and too... big (meybe 10 years ago he would suit, but not now). I would think Gael Garcia Bernal, myself, or even Alan Cumming (he certainly can do flamboyant).

For Loghain, I would go with Gary Oldman or even Anthony Hopkins... someone with intensity.

reply

[deleted]

Lol true, true. And like I said I am no fan of Jackson. I dunno why I even said anything. *Shrugs* I guess it was just for the sake of argument. =D

reply

It was interesting to see David Gaider's picks for a casting call wishlist. Thanks Harry.

reply

Okay, this is going to seem a bit strange, but movies of this type rarely need an all star cast. Most have one or two recognizable names going in and the rest of the parts tend to go to unknowns. However, why not cast Tim Curry, and Kate Mulgrew as Howe and Flemeth. They're certainly known in Hollywood.
And for that matter, I could never think of anyone else as Leliana or Morrigan as the origins, so why not Corinne Kempa and Claudia Black. And Claudia is very well known to fans from both Farscape and Stargate.
You can even have Simon Templeman as Loghain.

In the kingdom of the blind, you're the village idiot.

we like to 'argue' on these boards ;)

reply

Sigh. It's so easy to get off track on these forums, isn't it. How the hell did a Michael Jackson conversation start up in a Dragon Age Cast Wishlist? Truly baffling.

I have some adjustments, after hearing some opinions, especially on the warden and Leliana.

New Line Up:

Male Human Warden: Sam Worthington (Oh I went there!) OR Dominic Purcel
Morrigan: Megan Fox (Think Jennifer's Body but not as evil, definitely manipulative tho)
Alistair: Nick Zano (primary appearance and personality in other films)
Leliana: Evan Rachel Wood (why couldn't I think of that!?)
Sten: Kevin Grevioux OR Tony Todd (Mortician from Final Destination)
Wynne: Helen Mirren (I know I know)
Arl Eamon: Bernard Hill of course
Queen Anora: Kristen Bell (can easily get lost in her gorgeous eyes)
Loghaine Mac Tir: Billy Zane (with a wig)
Duncan: Viggo Mortensen
---
---
Bann Teagan: Sean Bean
Flemeth: Judi Dench
King Cailen: Orlando Bloom (with blonde hair, not elven blonde)
Arl Howe: Tim Curry (who else could it possibly be?)
Oghren: Brendan Gleeson (I'm sure I'll get comments, but that's my pick)

reply

"Oghren: Brendan Gleeson (I'm sure I'll get comments, but that's my pick) "

Whoa now that is an odd pick. I dunno if I could see cowardy Wormtail or the sleazy Beatle as brave and awesome Oghren.

And while Orlando Bloom would be a good look alike for Cailen, I think the role is just a bit too small for him. He would never agree to do it. Hence why I put him in Alistair's armor. ;)

What do you all think of Alan Rickman as Loghain? He certainly has the nose for the job and no one can doubt his acting skills. And Loghain kiiiinda sounds like Alan. Sort of...

reply

[deleted]

You do make a good point on Orlando Bloom. Forgot about Lotr. Although, it's probably just me, but I wouldn't compare DA to LOTR at all because I think DA has something that LOTR doesn't; the ability to keep me awake. *Dodges projectiles* I'm sorry! Other than the awesome, super well-trained horse I hated LOTR.

reply

Say what you want about the movie version of LOTR, I thought it a lot better than the novels.

I think Joanne has some idea of what I like in my fantasy novels. Right Joanne?

Wow. You don't hear that very often (read: ever).

I like it when there are significant differences between the books and the movies (Harry Potter), although the main storyline is the same. It makes it interesting to see what they have changed.

Sam Worthington is Alistair in my mind. He would however need to stretch his acting ability and really nail the humor part.

I've seen what you'd like.

Here's what would happen:

Warden: a complete unknown
Alistair: some nice-looking semi-unknown guy from an action TV series
Morrigan: some nice-looking semi-unknown girl from an action or crime TV series
Leliana: some nice-looking semi-unknown girl from a high school TV series. Or Justin Bieber (SCNR!)
Sten: some body builder or wrestler, token African-American
Wynne: Helen Mirren
Loghain: John Malkovich (hamming it up to the max)
Duncan: Daniel Day-Lewis or Jeremy Irons

The latter three will look as if they wished they were somewhere else throughout the movie...

Director: some guy who's never made a large-scale movie, maybe a special effects specialist (which won't keep the CGI from looking disastrous...)

Music: Tyler Bates (this time "borrowed" from Howard Shore, for a change...). Fight scenes with Heavy Metal music. Some upcoming teen idol(s) sing the closing credits song. Or maybe Metallica.

Screenplay: originally written by David Gaider, then completely re-worked by studio executives to appeal to the target demographics and make it PG-13.

Under these circumstances, I'd prefer this movie never to be made.

But should it be made, I'd be gladly proven wrong...

PS: Zevran: Nathan Lane ...

reply

[deleted]

That might be possible.

Compare "Star Wars" and "Screamers", for example. Both different, both good movies in their own right.

Bernard Hill, Daniel Day Lewis, Hellen Mirren and Liam Neeson are right on the money calls. As for my list, I'll try to come up with alternatives (save for Wynne, Hellen Mirren is too perfect). I'm not sure if Kristen Bell is the right call but I can't come up with anyone better.

(My) Aeducan Warden: Nick Frost
Alistair: Nathan Fillion
Morrigan: Claire Forlani
Leliana: Christina Hendricks
Sten: Dwayne Johnson
Oghren: John C. Riley
Zevran: Freddy Rodriguez
Wynne: Hellen Mirren
Arl Eamon: Geoffrey Rush
Duncan: Christopher Waltz
Teryn Loghain: Hugo Weaving
Queen Anora: Kristin Bell

BONUS CAMEOS

King Cailan: George Clooney
Gorim: Phillip Seymour Hoffman
Bhelen: Simon Pegg

I feel like my list would require a great leap of faith.
